I would like to thank the committee of The Border Union Agricultural Society for giving me the chance to judge at their Championship show. The day was glorious though the heat did affect some of the exhibits and therefore my decisions. To be critical, my observations on the day over all types, were, that the majority of exhibits were short in ribbing and length of sternum and therefore long in the loin. Also a few had upright shoulders and were short in upper arm. On a positive note presentation was first class with clean, fit, well presented dogs.

DACHSHUNDS LONG – HAIRED

Junior Dog: 1st Miss E Mitchell, BRONIA SON of ANARCHY, This 7 month old red dog pup has a classic outline with a prominent keel and depth of chest. He has a masculine head and eye. He covered the ground well in profile and kept a level topline though coming and going his movement was a bit erratic. Perhaps this will improve as he matures.

Post Graduate Dog: 1st Mr K S & Mrs S Paskins KINDEACE MICKEY MARS. This 3 year old red dog has good length to height ratio. He has a pleasing outline with a good head and eye and correct teeth. He moved out well coming and going and kept his topline in profile. 2nd. Miss J M Dimon LABBADAX INSPIRATION for DIMERLIN. A much bigger dog and longer cast than one with a stronger head and a wider skull. His eye shape was correct and he was presented in lovely coat.

Open Dog: 1st Mrs J F Geeson ABYDACHS SEIZE THE NIGHT. This dog is litter brother to my BOB and though I felt that he was better in a some departments than his sister he just was not up to the challenge in the heat of the day. He has a lovely head and eye and correct bite. An elegant neck and good shoulder placement, leading into a level topline. He has a correct front with prominent keel and the best ribbing of the dogs here today. His coat gleamed in the sunshine as he moved well around the ring. BOS. 2nd Mrs J Lindsay BRONIA PLUTUS This boy is heavier overall than my winner with everything in proportion. He has a pleasing head and eye and carried his topline well on the move. He was presented in good coat and the heat did not prevent him moving well around the ring.

Junior Bitch: 1st Miss E Mitchell BRONIA SUPERNATURAL Stacked this bitch looks wonderful. She has a beautiful head and eye and strong teeth. A classic outline, and sounder on the move than her brother. She still has a lot of growing to do in all departments. My Best Puppy and pleased to see her take the Hound Puppy group. 2nd Mr K S & Mrs S Paskins TERRITORIA LUBVI VESNA AT KINDEACE. A longer cast bitch with a decent head and eye and strong teeth. She is a bit short in ribbing and long in loin which accounts for her running up behind on the move. She was presented in super condition as always from this kennel.

Post Graduate Bitch: 0 entries

Open Bitch: The first two in this class were difficult to separate. Though they are completely different types I liked them both for different reasons.

1st Mrs J F Geeson. ABYDACHS GIVING OFF SPARKS This bitch is longer cast than I prefer but she has so much to like. Her head is very feminine on her arching neck and it just flows into well laid shoulders, tight elbows then a level topline. Beautiful body condition and her coat put down to perfection. She strode out around the ring despite the heat to win the class my BOB

2nd L.J.McNaughton Ch Cedavoch Kismit. When this bitch came into the ring I thought she was my winner. She is a good size with a classic compact outline. A good strong neck, flowing into well laid shoulders, and a level topline. She has a prominent keel with enough ribbing. I thought her head was a bit less feminine than my winner and she did not move with quite the ease around the ring as my winner.
