BEST OF BREED : 1483 MCNAUGHTON, Ms L Cedavoch Spellbound
Overall the presentation and condition of the exhibits was good. Some really promising youngsters coming through our breed. Only repetitive flaw which I found alarming was the number of dogs who have poor lay of shoulder and lack in upper arm. I was always taught a dachshund is built on its shoulders and if you get a decent shoulder, the rest will follow. Sadly we are lacking in quantity of decent shoulders but not completely. Encouragingly though, movement on the whole has improved since last time I judged.
Puppy Dog (3 entries, 0 absent)
1st Geeson’s Abydachs Darkest Night. Lovely shaded red dog of 10 months. Beautiful head, good reach of neck flowing into lovely lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Good ribbing and topline. Rear quarters balanced with fore quarters. Needs to tighten in muscle as expected with any puppy but a lovely youngster overall. Moved well with good width. RCC.
2nd McNaughton’s Cedavoch Dark Magic. Good head and reach of neck. Not the lay of shoulder of 1. Good firm topline, nicely angulated in the rear quarters. Moved well with reach and drive.
3rd Wedge’s Dolan The Last Time
Junior Dog (1,1)
Post Graduate Dog (4,0)
1st Siggee’s Bonavoir Nagaseer Into Ensigynes. Nice head, decent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, good firm topline and correct ribbing. Well angulated rear quarters. Could do more on the move and would prefer more width in front.
2nd Vincent’s Dolan Save The Last Dance For Gainscroft. Good head and reach of neck. Neat outline. Not as balanced as 1, would prefer more length of upper arm. However, well angulated rear which he used well on the move to drive around the ring.
3rd Wedge’s Dolan Dock of the Bay
Limit Dog (4,1)
1st Paskins & Paskins’ Cedavoch Its Taboo At Kindeace. Preferred his balance, size and movement in this class. Would prefer more reach of neck, balanced fore and rear quarters. Good topline and length of ribbing. Moved with drive.
2nd Paskins & Paskins’ Kindeace Texas Ranger. Forward in shoulder placement, would prefer more length of upper arm and second thigh. A little on the big side for me and didn’t keep his outline on the move.
3rd Sutton’s Kindeace Texas Tornado At Damai
Open Dog (5,1)
Close class between 1 and 2. Both lovely examples of the breed but 2 wasn’t giving his all on the move on the day.
1st Roberts’ Ch Swansford Gabrieldor. A dog who immediately catches your eye on the move. Good head and reach of neck. Lay of shoulder ok but could have a touch more length in upper arm. Good firm topline, good depth of ribbing but would prefer more length. Kept his outline on the move and stack. Beautiful rear angulation and well-muscled which he used to effortlessly drive around the ring.
2nd Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Monterey Jack. Nice head and reach of neck. Good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Good ribbing and topline. Rear well balanced to the front. Didn’t use the angulation he has to drive from the rear.
3rd Wedge’s Dolan Johnny Be Good
Veteran Dog (2,0)
1st Garlick’s Ranglewood Arashi. Neat elegant dog. Lovely head and reach of neck, well placed and angulated shoulders, good topline and ribbing. Rear well balanced to the front. Would prefer more width through on the move.
2nd Borsuk & Borsuk’s Ir Ch Badamtam’s via Baltica at Follypaws ShCM. Looking well for 10 years. Nice head and reach of neck. Ok lay of shoulder but lacking in length of upper arm. Decent outline which he kept on the move.
Puppy Bitch (2,0)
1st McNaughton’s Cedavoch Blith Spirit. Nice neat bitch in lovely coat. Good reach of neck. Ok lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Good topline with decent ribbing. Well muscled and angulated rear quarters. Kept a lovely shape at all times.
2nd Garlick’s Rangelwood Islay. Neat, elegant bitch. Lovely head and reach of neck. Decent fore quarters but would prefer more angulation in the rear.
Junior Bitch (1,0)
1st Roberts’ Swansford Glendadora. Nice head and ok for quarter assembly. Occasionally lost her topline on the move and not moving fluidly. Would prefer more width in front on the move. Well angulated in rear quarters.
Post Graduate Bitch (5,0)
1st McNaughton’s Cedavoch Spellbound. Lovely shaded red bitch who caught my eye immediately on the move. Lovely head and reach of neck, well angulated and balanced fore and rear quarters, good fiirm topline. While I would prefer her lay of shoulder to be better, her overall shape and movement could not be matched on the day. BCC BOB & BP.
2nd Butler’s Tekalhaus Our Girl From Drymoor. Nice head and reach of neck. Decent fore quarters with balanced rear. Kept a good outline on the stack and move. Would prefer more width through and lacked in reach and drive compared to 1.
3rd Vincent’s Metadale Monica At Gainscroft
Limit Bitch (5,2)
1st Fossett’s Brysdax Mamma Mia. Neat black and tan bitch presented in lovely condition. Nice head and reach of neck. Decent shoulders with good firm topline. Lovely rear angulation which she used well on the move. Would prefer more width behind in movement but balanced throughout. RCC.
2nd Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Margarita. Beautiful shape, well balanced red bitch who was just not in her finest dress on the day, carrying just a touch too much weight. Good head and reach of neck. Well angulated fore and rear quarters which she used well on the move. When shes back in coat I’m sure she will be competing for the top awards again.
3rd Paskins & Paskins’ Imp Territoriya Lubvi Vesna At Kindeace (Imp Rus)
Open Bitch (4,0)
1st Garlick’s Ranglewood Trick or Treat. Nice neat bitch of good size. Elegant head and good reach of neck. Easily the best fore quarters in the class with lovely lay and length of upper arm complimented with equally well angulated rear. Moved well keeping a lovely outline at all times, just would have preferred a bit more drive in the line up.
2nd Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Fire In Her Soul. Lovely head and good reach of neck. Upright in shoulder blade and lacks length of upper arm, shown on the move with little width in front. Good topline and length and depth of ribbing. Rear quarters also lacked length in second thigh and turn of stifle. Moved well in side profile.
3rd McNaughton’s Cedavoch Evil On My Mind
