I was delighted to be awarding Challenge Certificates for the first time to one of my favourite breeds, a breed close to my heart and with which I have had a lifelong association. Thank you to the Dachshund Club for their invitation and hospitality and a special thanks to my two stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. I was pleased with the quality of my top winners but there were couple of observations worth noting. With few exceptions I missed the beautiful conical houndy heads which the Longs were known for, with several being too wide in back skull. Hind movement left a bit to be desired in some cases with several moving close behind and/or walking on their rear pasterns when viewed in profile. Bites were excellent with one exception which was level and all teeth were clean including the veterans – indeed condition and presentation on the whole was superb. Thank you everyone for bringing your exhibits I enjoyed judging each and every one of them.
Special Beginners Dog (1,0)
1. Kenzduo Quartz Bright (Kay) 14 mths B & T outgoing temperament. Very much a raw junior. Nice head light eye but correct shape. Good bone. Rather long and narrow which showed on move. Short rib long loin. Handled well
Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
Nice class of promising babies.
1. Dachyclan Lochlan at Bronia (imp Aus) (Hanney – Mitchell) glamorous red at his first show and learning his craft. Plenty of bone and substance but not coarse in any way. Lovely head and expression. Balanced all through. Correct front assembly and excellent length of rib. Good ground clearance. Moved soundly holding himself well for such a baby. Exciting prospect I've no doubt. Best Puppy
2. Breezelyn Love You Long Time (Pike and Carter) handsome mature boy on the larger side but still elegant. Masculine head almond eye. Front correct but heavy over shoulders. Good length of rib level topline and well angulated rear with short rear pasterns. Would prefer more ground clearance.
3. Breezelyn Long Awaited by Gaisnscroft (Vincent)

1. Gainscroft Dark Destroyer (Vincent) shaded red dog of correct size in super condition. Correct head almond eye. Good bone and balanced. Super on the move both coming and going and in profile. Rather heavy over shoulder and short upper skull. Neat elbows tucked under ribcage. Tad short in keel. Level topline and correct tailset
Limit Dog (3,0)
1. Swansford Prestonador (Roberts) 19 months shaded red of beautiful type. Correct size and balance. Masculine head with lovely expression. Good bone but elegant. He was lovely to go over on the table everything fitting together smoothly and correctly. Superb front assembly with clean well laid back shoulders and length and return of upper arm with elbows neatly tucked under his ribcage, plenty of forechest, good length of rib, short loin, level topline and correct tailset, well angulated rear quarters with short rear pasterns. Standing on good feet. Plenty of ground clearance and I liked his height to length ratio. On the move he raised the bar with perfect footfall being absolutely true coming and going and showing reach and drive in side profile. Added to this he had the joie de vivre of youth holding his head high and wagging his tail as he went. Shown in super condition and presented well. I loved him and was delighted to award him the CC and BOB, making him up on the day I believe. He later went on to win BIS. Congratulations!
2. Kindeace Texas Ranger (Paskins) glamorous top size red. Nice head and expression. OK front. Tad short in rib but too long and tended to rise over loin. Moved soundly coming and going.
3. Cedavoch It’s Taboo at Kindeace ( Paskins)
Open Dog (3,0)
1. Ch Abydachs Return of the Night (Geeson) lovely sized compact dog in wonderful coat and condition. Worthy champion. Liked his height to length ratio with plenty of ground clearance. Lovely head and eye. Good front assembly which was evident on the move where he illustrated good reach in profile and good footfall coming towards. Would prefer better feet. Well developed ribcage carried well back with short strong loin. Strong level topline with correct tail set and carriage. Tad close going away and not rear drive of CC winner in profile well handled and presentation top class. RDCC
2. Zarcrest Huw Grant (Pike Carter and Harris) larger dog of nice type and rather heavier all through. Masculine head. Good length of neck into correct front assembly level topline good length of rib and strong rear. Shown in good conditionand handled well.
3. Ranglewood Harvest Song (Garlick)
Veteran (1,0)
1. Ranglewood Arashi (Garlick) super boy. Masculine head with no sign of coarseness. Lovely dark almond shaped eye. Correct front assembly with enough neck good forechest and length of keel. Special Beginners Bitch (3,0)
1. Ranglewood Katrine (Heap) Black and tan bitch which was really nice to go over on the table. Nice head and eye. Correct front length of rib and quarters. Needs to get her act together on the move and I think her owner will have some fun with her. Best SB.
2. Ranglewood Titania at Suecaseus (Cheese) pretty red bitch handled and shown well. Preferred front of one but she has a nice outline and moved well.
3. Beauty Long at Clavannae ( Foley)

Junior Bitch (6,2)
1. Tarramist Starlight (ai) ( Negus) feminine shaded red bitch of nice type. Good bone. Correct front assembly with laid back shoulders and return of upper arm. Well developed prosternum and length of ribcage and well angulated rear quarters. Tad long in loin. Slightly less weight would benefit.
2. Abydachs Hot Patootie (Geeson) elegant bitch with good height to length ratio. Feminine balanced head with lovely eye. Preferred front assembly of 1. Well developed forechest and length of keel. Rock solid topline. Shown in good condition and well presented
3. Ranglewood Heilen (Garlick)
Novice Bitch (2,0)
1. Delsaux Strawberry Fields (Legg) bigger taller bitch with nice and head and eye. Good bone elegant. Would prefer better angles front and rear but moved soundly and true.
2. Loretta Wynne By Myles (Foley) nice type of bitch. More compact than one. Good bone and length of rib. Rather full in eye and not interested in being a showgirl!
Post Graduate Bitch (5,1)
1. Kyrenia Queens Request With Ranglewood (Garlick) I really like this shaded red girl. Nice size. Feminine head with almond shaped eye. Good bone but elegant. Liked her height to length ratio. Well laid back shoulders and return of upper arm. Good length of rib and short coupled. Level topline both stacked and on the move. Enough coat.
2. Tarramist Platinum Aria (ai) (Negus) very nice bitch of heavier type particularly over shoulders. Good length of rib. Lower top ground. Sound and moved well.
3. Delsaux Lady Madonnaof Fahoogle (Barnicott & Pascoe)

2. CH Cedavoch Blithe Spirit (McNaughton) another red bitch of lovely type and many of the same remarks apply. Beautiful head and eye. Super front length of rib with well angulated hindquarters with short hock to ground. Lovely to go over. Tad lower to ground than 1. Lovely free flowing movement coming and going and in profile. RCC
3. Ch Darsom’s Zymystique (Dare)
Veteran Bitch (3,0)
All 7 years and looking well.
1. Ranglewood Trick Or Treat (Garlick) Black and tan bitch with feminine head and almond eye. Correct front and rear assembly. Good length of rib. Looked a picture stacked. Rather narrow coming and going. Moved well in profile.
