BEST OF BREED : GEESON Ch Abydachs Return Of The Night
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Dachshunds here today. It is one of my most favourite shows to judge at.
Thanks so much to my amazing stewards who kept the ring running smoothly all day and kept everything fun and upbeat.
Cannot thank all the exhibitors enough for trusting me with your hounds.
I found many beautiful longs who were well constructed, fit for function and on top form. Fronts seem to be set further back on most, only one I found who was very very poor in layback which was half way up the neck. Coats were super and all presented well, sometimes the full pants made it a struggle to assess rear movement, so I feel like I have completed ‘leg day’ at the gym with lots of crouching.

7yo. Very handsome houndy head, red boy, good eye shape and colour, pigment pleasing and correct ear set. Neck clean, super from assembly, showing correct layback and return of upper arm. Oval thorax, prominent prosternum, long enough keel. Ribs well back, strong over loin. Matching rear with good width of second thigh. Topline and underline correct. Good bone and feet. Moved really well.
2nd:GARLICK, Miss E A Ranglewood Arashi
10.5yo shaded red, nice conical head, good mouth, prefer a stronger underjaw though. Eye shape pleasing. Clean through throat, neck elegant. Super shoulder which was well placed and angulated. Ribs carried well back. A little long in second thigh, making him crouch, which created a slopey topline, underline sweeping. Moved well and with plenty of presence.

A super example of the breed, very smart youngster. Pleasing head, well filled under eye, good planes, ears well set, nice eye and pigment. Neck clean and elegant. Faultless front assembly, oval thorax, nice long keel and prominent prosternum. Ribs deep and carried well back. Topline and underline spot on. Nice strong rear, good width of second thigh, low hocks, good feet. Shown in lovely condition and presented beautifully. Pleasure to judge.

Nice class. Both with super heads, good eye shape, pigment, ear set and used them well, prefer the underjaw on 1st. Prefer the shoulder on 1st, 2nd to fall back. 1st had a better H-L ratio, giving him a stronger topline and underline with more ground clearance. Both moved well for youngsters. Look forward to watching them mature and blossom.

Very nice breed type, super head, masculine yet elegant, good ear placement, mouth a little level though. Very pleasing layback of shoulder and return of upper arm, correct lengths and angulation, oval thorax, long keel. Good feet and bone. Ribs deep and carried well back. Topline, underline and tail set all pleasing. Nice strong rear, well angulated, low hocks, good second thigh. Powerful movement showing true and correct reach and drive. Super in profile too.
2nd: PASKINS, Mr K & Mrs S Kindeace Hit The Road Jack JW
A little strong in head for me, good eye shape, eye colour, pigment and ear placement. Neck clean and elegant, shoulder well angulated, prominent prosternum, long keel. Ribs deep and carried back to a strong loin. Underline and topline pleasing, tail set correct. Strong rear, well angulated and low hocks. Movement coming and going was nice, profile could have shown a little more drive and presence. Beautifully conditioned and presented as always with this kennel.

Classic head which was masculine but not overdone, lovely almond eye, good colour too, ears well set and used giving that beautiful expression. Neck clean, shoulders well set and angulated, showing correct length and angulation of layback and upper arm. Prominent prosternum, long keel, ribs deep and carried well back to a strong loin. Wouldn’t want him any longer. Rear was strong, good width across pelvis, low hocks, strong second thigh. Not overdone in anyway. Again, presented in beautiful coat and condition. Handled sympathetically, getting the most out of him. Smart hound.
2nd: MARKS, Ms G Labbadax Quantum Socialize
Masculine head, good eye shape, ears well set and used. I would prefer a slightly longer neck. He has a beautifully angulated shoulder, keel fairly long, oval thorax. Rear balanced to front. Topline and underline spot on. Nicely conditioned. A fraction longer in neck would just balance him beautifully.

This male basically presents himself in the ring and you cant not notice him. He is masculine, elegant, correct size, balanced, powerful yet light on his feet, he has the most wonderful self-carriage I’ve ever seen in a long and his handler is just there to hold his lead. His head is handsome, eye colour and shape pleasing, ears correctly placed and well used, the set on from the back of his skull to neck gives him that extra elegance. He is clean through his throat, his shoulders are textbook, oval thorax, correct feet, plenty of bone, keel long, ribs deep and carried well back to a strong, deep loin. Topline and underline perfect. Rear is beautifully balanced with his front. He is one of those dogs who gives you goosebumps. A true pleasure to judge. Presented in full coat and super condition.
2nd: ROBERTS, Mr D Ch Swansford Prestonador
Smart male, nice planes, prefer a little more fill under eye. A slightly longer neck would balance him out a bit, throat clean, shoulders pleasing, oval thorax, nice long keel. Ribs deep and carried well back to a strong loin. Topline and underline correct, strong rear, good width of second thigh. A little low to ground for a grass ring. Moved soundly and with reach and drive.

Elegant from back of skull to neck, clean through throat, neck of good length, shoulders placed beautifully, showing correct angulation and matching length of layback and upper arm. Oval thorax, prominent prosternum, lengthy keel. Super topline and underline. Ribs carried well back to a strong loin. Rear was matching from and powerful, second thigh strong, short neat hocks. Flawless on the move in all directions. Presented in beautiful coat and condition. Wonderful breed type. Nothing to fault here. Pleasure to award her the CC, easy decision.
2nd:REID, Mr P & Mrs D Swansford Daphnedora At Maudaxi
Super head, feminine, lovely soft expression, ears well placed and used. Neck clean and of good length, layback of shoulder to fall back into place, return of upper arm good, nice length of keel, ribs carried back to a nice loin. Rear was okay just now, just needs time to develop and blossom. Presented in super coat and condition.

Neck clean and elegant, pleasing shoulder placement and angulation, oval thorax, lengthy keel, ribs deep and well back. Rear is in balance with front, strong with nice low hocks. Shows plenty of reach and drive on move. Beautiful in profile.
2nd: PIKE & CARTER, Mrs & Mrs Julie & Ashlie Breezelyn Longing For Love
Prefer this head to 1st, slightly cleaner and more elegant, eye shape pleasing, ears well set. Could be tidier through throat. Shoulders well set and of good angulation, keel of good length. Rear matching front, although prefer the second thigh and drive of 1st. Positive movement. True and easy.

Very similar types, both have super heads, eye shape, ear and mouths. Elegant and clean necks, shoulders well angulated on both and lengthy keels. Toplines good, underlines sweeping. Rears were correctly matching front. I preferred the outline of 1st. Both moved very true. I would prefer a little more presence and sparkle from both. When 1st settled fully her movement was superb.

Red, very smart head, feminine, good eye shape and colour, ears well set and used beautifully. Neck clean, shoulders set nicely and of good angulation with matching length of layback and upper arm, lengthy keel. Ribs deep and carried well back to a strong loin. Rear was balanced with front, super width of second thigh. Good bone and feet. Topline and underline spot on. Moved with true reach and drive. Lovely in profile. Presented well.
2nd:GEESON, Mrs J F Abydachs Hot Patootie JW
Another quality head, almond eyes of good colour, ears well set and used, pigment pleasing. Neck elegant and clean with that lovely set on from back of skull to top of neck. Shoulders were well set and angulated beautifully, matching rear which was strong with a lovely width of second thigh. Topline and underline correct. Oval thorax. Moved super in profile. Presented in super condition and coat and handled sympathetically getting the most out of her. 1st showed just a little more presence.

Super breed type, head elegant and feminine. Neck clean and of good length. Shoulders well placed and angulated, oval thorax, lengthy keel. Ribs deep and carried well back to a strong, deep loin. Rear was strong, nice width of second thigh. She seemed to flatten when stacked in topline, but held it beautifully on the move, underline sweeping. Plenty of bone, feet correct. In super coat and condition. Moved true in all directions. Plenty of presence.
2nd:HANNEY-MITCHELL, Mrs F Ch Cavallibrook Final Fling Bronia
Another quality head, feminine and elegant, good eye shape, neck clean and of good length. Shoulders well placed and angulated, lengthy keel, ribs deep and well back, loin strong. She had a super topline when stacked and dropped it on the move, underline sweeping. Moved true coming and going but just lacked the smarter outline that 1st had in profile. Presented beautifully.
