BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 2003 Dachshund (Smooth Haired) Judge: Mr J Horswell

I was very happy with the quality right through this entry, which made for an enjoyable task. Tempermantes throughout were fine, and most appeared to be of the correct size, although I realise that the rather huge ones may have been sensibly left at home. Some coild loose a little weight to enhamce thier attractive lines. Mouths need watching from a breeding point of view as there were a few not quite right, but the biggest problem seems to be flat feet and wrinkled forelegs, often these went together but not always. Ribbing on the whole is good and back ends better than fronts, with movement ranging from excellent to not at all bad, I can’t remember a really unsound one. I see that my DCC, RDCC and both puppies were sired by the lovely Ch. Tythe Equinox, with Ch. Rosenket Uptown Guy accounting for BOB and several other winners. I seem to remember doing well for his progeny last time. There seemed to be a friendly, sporting atmosphere around the ring, so hopefully the Smooth is well and truely on the way back up which can only benifit Dachshunds as a whole.
MPD. (5). A very nice class to start. 1. Hunt’s, D’Arisca Class Distinction of Carpaccio. L/t dog with a very good outline. Long well balanced head. Good neck, fair shoulder. Super forechest. Long enough in keel. Well sprung ribs, well made rear. Moves well and held best topline here. 2. Walkley’s, Follycot Bar the Best. Very well made b/t. Good head, long neck. Best shoulders in class and a grand ribcage. Can settle yet and firm in topline on the move, then he shoudl be really super. Strong rear, sound mover. Trimmed nails would improve feet. 3. McNaughton’s, Cedavoch Hightreason.
JD (2). 1. Hedge’s, Silandajo Hit the Jackpot. Quite well made dog. Pleasing masculine head. Long enough in neck, well constructed front. Super forechest. Long keel but rather long in loin. Topline ok. Nicely made rear. Sound mover although lacks any enthusiasm.
PGD. (2). 1. Phillip’s, Jessingale Crackerjack of Tendrow. This dog has a very good outline standing. Masculine head of good length, just a touch broad in skull. Nice proportions to his body and ideal for size. Shoulder could be better. Long rib and keel. Firm in topline. Good rear. Moves well behind. A touch wide in front, but does have a long and free strode.
LD. (7). Interesting class. 1. Bethel’s, Hampdach Autumn Quest. Very good outline both stacked and on the move. Gleaming condition and so correct for size. Pleasing in head, strong well carried neck, long shoulder, well made front. Good body, feet ok. Firm topline held at all times. Well made rear. Could just drive a fraction more behind and go with more oomph. Dead sound in front. CC. 2. Rawson’s, Twyhill Forceful Freddy for Rosenket. Lovely for type and balance. Liked his head more than first. Super neck and shoulder. Grand body and ribs. Holds a firm topline. Good rear angles, low set hocks. Would like a little more drive behind. Pleases in profile and front action. Again correct for size. 3. Wilkinson’s, Sunhaze Slavonska.
OD. (3). 1. Davies’s, Ch. Undel Elenius. Fairly easy winner in this class. Good head, could have a fraction darker eye. Super neck. Long and well laid shoulders. Super size. Could have a little more bone and better feet. Nice body and rear. Very easy mover. RCC. His second from me. 2. Hey’s, Quiske Classic Impact. Longer dog with deeper body, so not quite as balanced as first. Fair head, long neck, very well laid shoulder and good long upper arm. Long ribs, fair rear. Quite true mover but not the strode of first. 3. Jeffery’s, Roceta Choisya Sundance.
MPB. (5). Three very raw babies. 1. Furber’s, Dorysa Dyddanwy. Nice pup of lovely size and type. Super head and eye. Good neck well made front. Grand body, plenty long enough. Well made rear. Sound mover if floppy. 2. Vosper’s, Bonavior Atlanta. Good for type and size. Lovely head, well made. Needs confidence. Moves very well. Fair ribs. 3. Chamber’s, Batendach Limited Print.
PB. (3). Two very nice pups. 1. Rawson’s, Rosenket Beautiful Dreamer. Very obvioulsy more mature in body. Lovely head, long neck. Good shoulder with long upper arm. Super keel and ribs with a short strong loin. Holds a firm topline. Strong rear. Plenty of forechest. Moves true with long free stride. High quality prospect. BP. 2. Turner’s, Marictur Miss Midnight. Super for size. Although I would prefer just a little more bone. Feminine head. Well made front. Good chest, showing correct amount of daylight. Firm in topline. Nice rear. A sound moving bitch, again very promising.
JB. (3). 1. Scott’s, Roleta Game Plan of Firestorm. By far the best front in this class. Good size and very feminine. Head is long but a little weak in muzzle and deep in stop. Super neck. Good shoulder, nice body. Good rear. Lovely feminine lines. 2. Hedges’, Silandajo My Little Angel. Rather heavy bitch. Nice head, strong neck, stands with her front toes pointing up. Fair shoulder. Very good ribs, better rear than third. 3. Wilkinson and Hewart-Chamber’s, Sunhaze Sccatallina.
PGB. (9). 1. Rawson;sm Rosenket A Star is Born. Super for size and type with an excellent outline. Lovely head and neck. Well laid shoulder with long upper arm. Just a little slack in pasterns. Super ribs, firm topline. Quite good rear. Sound mover with a long stride. 2. Dalgety’s, Thundergay at a Glance. Well made and sound bitch. Would like a little more daylight under her and not quite so long. Lovely feminine head wrinkle. Nice ribs and ok in loin. Strong rear with low hocks. 3. Boyd’s, Fuzaketa Amaryllis.
LB. (5). 1. Rawson’s, Twyhill Back to the Future with Rosenket. Classic Dachshund shape and outline stood. Absolutely lovely head, good neck. Very well made front assembly. Good chest, nice legs and feet with no wrinkle. Long ribs and keel. Could be a fraction shoter in loin. Holds a firm topline. Strong rear, scored over second in hind action. True front and nice long stride. CC and BOB. Champion on the day. 2. Dalgety’s, Thundergay Lady be Good. Very good bitch all round. Would like a longer and stronger muzzle. Excellent neck. Nice front, good ribs, a fraction long in loin. Feet ok well set low hocks. True front action with long stride. 3. Barney’s, Ralines Review of Verrami.
OB. (6). Four
very lovely Smooth bitches, hard to sort. 1. Copper’s, Sontal See Fit. Liked her
balance. As all here a very correct size. Liked her head. Nice neck, long in
shoulder and upper arm. Super body. Firm topline. Good rear which she uses well.
Just a little wide coming towards. Very feminine bitch. RCC. 2. Rawson’s, New
Spring Time Girl by Rosenket. Another with a super outline, found her just a
shade longer in the loin. Super head, long neck. Nice front. Has a long ribcage
and keel. Holds a firm topline and uses rear well. Good legs and feet. 3.
Turner’s, Marictur Morgan La Fay.
