SMOOTH HAIRED

I would like to thank the exhibitors for a lovely entry. The last time I judged the Smooths at Crufts 2001 I made comments about poor shoulder angulation and short keels and sadly this still applies, mainly in the d classes. I found a number of males with v short upper arms which resulted in a lack of forechest and restricted front action and this reflected in my placings, some d’s look good stacked but lost their outline on the move. Hind movement is another problem, we have lost well muscled hindquarters and v few move with extension behind. Some d’s had soft feet and wrinkle, road work would help to improve muscle tone and feet. Presentative and temperaments were good I was pleased to find two young males that took top honours and should have a bright futures. It was nice to find such depth of quality in the b classes and there are some v nice youngsters coming up for next yr after looking at my catalogue later, I found a number of my placings in the b classes had similar breeding. And a couple of sires featured strongly. We also have a wider gene pool now, so let us all try to benefit from it. DOGS: MP (3). 1 Hedges’ Silandjo Just For You. 7 mth old b/t rather immature, nice shoulder lay and ribbing, carried well back at a rangy stage and full of mischief enjoying his day out; 2 Wolages’ Matzell Milord. A baby, longer cast than winner and not as angulated behind, looking rather rangy and not as confident as the winner would have liked better shoulder angulations. P (4). 1 Armstrong’s Lauralee Lloyd George. Masculine b/t quite mature, well developed front, tight shoulders, good length and follow through of ribbing into a strong loin, well muscled hindquarters and good movement, would like to see him carrying less weight RCC; 2 Turner’s Rosanport Out Of The Hat. Lighter framed d and a bit rangy yet. I would have liked a better length of ribbing and more turn of stifle, moved well, but lost his top line slightly. J (1). 1 Luke’s Cedavoch Celebdil. My find of the day, stood alone but a quality b/t 14 mth old, he is cast in the same mould as his lovely dam, clean cut head, good reach of neck, into well angulated shoulders, well filled forechest and ribbing carried well back, with a good underline and strong loin, correct angulation hindquarters which are well muscled, covered plenty of ground as you would expect from his structure, he stood out in the challenge line up CC and BOB. PG (3). 1 Melbourne’s Sunhaze St John of Melriding. Masculine red built on clean lines, kept a balanced picture standing and moving. Handler needs to relax with this d and give him more confidence. L (6). 1 Hedges’ Silandjo Hit The Jackpot. Strong masculine b/t with bone and substance, well developed front, reasonable shoulders and good length of ribbing and a clean under line, moved well, but would like to see him with less weight; 2 Wolages’ Matzell Moritz. Red with a smaller frame, short in upper arm and I would like to see him with more substance, moved well and was well handled; 3 McCarthy’s Seatris Laced With Success. Built on clean lines a bit straight in shoulder, good ribbing, lost on hind movement. O (6). 1 Cooper’s Ch Sontag Saver The Flavour. Quality b/t I have judged before, the three L’s apply here, has good ribbing and clean under line, moved and showed well; 2 Hunt’s Ch D’Arisca Class Distinction at Carpaccio. Chocolate and tan, smaller framed than winner, nice shoulders, would have liked more length of ribbing and loin, looks a bit square, moved well, keeping his top line; 3 Mcnaughton’s Ch and Aus Ch Nicholyev The Hobbit (imp). Clear red who I have seen in better condition, not carrying enough body, lost today on movement. V (3). 1 Wolages’ Ch Matzell Marmaduke. Red I have judged before in firm condition for his 7+ years, well handled and enjoying his day. BITCHES: MP (6). 1 Norton’s Matzell Malua. B/t full of quality and typical Matzell type, well angulated front and rear, clean front, shoulders and ribbing, strong loin and well let down hindquarters, perhaps carrying a bit too much substance, moved well for BP; 2 Rawson’s Rosenket Enchanted Evening. V elegant b/t pushed the winner hard, lovely shoulder lay, front and ribbing gd, moved well keeping a nice outline, should have a bright future, same sire as 1; 3 Smallpages’ Tendrow Star Sapphire over Merumist. Promising baby with lots to like about her, shows a lot of promise just needs more confidence. P (4). 1 Furber’s Dorysa Rioja. V promising red, rather immature and needs to gain confidence but like the wine, will get better with age, moved much better on a loose lead, keeping her outline on the move, just needs a little more weight; 2 Armstrong’s Lauralee Under Milkwood. Heavier set b/t carrying a bit too much weight, and lost her top line slightly on the move, again better on a loose lead; 3 Passey’s Dorysa Moondust over Cagebrook. Litter sister to winner, b/t again immature, but has time on her side, promising trio of bitches. J (8). A good class. 1 Turner’s Rafthouse Read My Lips. Elegant b/t just out of p, lovely front assembly, with clean flowing lines, good ribbing and clean underline, a little over angulated behind, which shows on the move as she does not drive out well behind, otherwise a lot to like about her, well handled to get the best from her, headed a v nice class; 2 Burkes’ Bonavoir Grianna. Elegant chocolate/tan, well angulated shoulders, correct front, a nice size, ribbing carried well back into strong loin and correct hindquarters, would have liked a bit more weight on her, should have a bright future; 3 Rawson’s Rosenket Diamond R Forever. A nice one, same sire as second in MP and same quality. PG (11). 1 Rawson’s Laurtom First Edition from Sunhaze. Quality chocolate/tan, lovely front, shoulders nice and tight, ribbing carried well back with a clean under line, firm top line and strong hindquarters, which she used on the move, headed a really nice class and never stopped showing. Well handled has a happy temperament with positive movement RCC; 2 Burkes’ Bonavoir Coppelia. Shorter coupled b/t of a nice size and clean outline, well filled front, tight shoulders, strong hindquarters, moved well in this strong class, well handled; 3 Davies’ Bonavoir Queen Bee. Similar type to second and same notes applies. This was a strong class with some nice bitches down the line. L (7). 1 Rosenket Beautiful Dreamer. Quality b by a good producing sire. Well filled front, tight shoulders, ribbing carried well back, strong loin and sound behind, moved well, keeping a nice outline, again well handled without too much fuss; 2 Furber’s Dorysa Dyddanwy. B/t similar type, well filed front, shoulders good also ribbing carried well back into a strong loin and well let down hindquarters, moved well keeping a nice outline; 3 Trafford’s Dabrinoff Sally Ann. Same qualities as first and second, well handled to get the best from her, a nice class with quality down the line. O (5). 1 Armstrong’s Lauralee Theme For A Dream. Eye catching red that I have admired from the ringside, lovely front and shoulders, correct length of ribbing and a clean underline, strong hind quarters and sound movement, did everything her handler asked of her, v feminine CC and RBOB; 2 Dalgetty’s Ch Thundergay Lady Be Good. Quality b/t carrying too much weight, good front, shoulders and ribbing, not as angulated as the winner and a bit sloppy on the move, would like to see her with less weight; 3 Turner’s Ch Marictur Miss Midnight. Smaller framed elegant b/t keeps a nice outline on the move, nice front assembly, just a little light behind, moved well keeping a good top line. V 1 Ch Marictur Material Girl; 2 Hinwood and Little’s Yatesbury Nut Truffle of Longmel. Two v nice bitches, both enjoying their day out, not showing their age and in firm condition.
