HOUNDSHOW 2004 Dachshund (Smooth Haired) Judge: Mrs D Graham
|
STANDARD SMOOTH
I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entries at this, my favourite of shows. The weather was so hot, I felt sorry for the dogs being subjected to the heat. I hope you will accept my comments about your breed - the original Dachshund! No coats to hide faults but I found upright shoulders, short upper arms, keels so deep that no way would they be able to do the job they were bred to do. Movement, a good many tummy tappers and a lot of pinning in behind, and aren’t they big? On the plus side temperaments were good, there were prosternums in abundance, some lovely heads and some wonderful feet. I found no incorrect bites, and no kinky tails.
PD. (1). 1. Cawley and King’s, Rigusa Seven of Nice. Chocolate and tan boy. Strong head, correct shoulders and hind angulation. A lot to like, but hind movement erratic at present. BPD.
SpBEGIND. (1). 1. Hedges’, Silandajo Hit the Jackpot. B/t boy. Good shoulder placement, but did not maintain topline on the move and slightly wide behind.
PGD. (2). 1. Walkley’s, Follycorr Bar the Rest by Churchoak. B/t. Good shoulder and prosternum but pins in behind on moving.
LD. (4). 1. McNaughton’s, Cedavoch High Treason. Chocolate and tan. Good head, good reach of neck, correct shoulder placement. Excellent topline. Good hind extension. Seriously considered him in the challenge. 2. Hunt’s, D’Arisca Class Distinction at Carpaccio JW. Chocolate and tan. Lovely to handle and moved well, but did not maintain topline. 3. McCarthy’s, Seatis Laced with Success.
OD. (3). 1. Bethel’s, Ch. Hampdach Autumn Quest. Masculine red boy. Handsome strong head. Good reach of neck. Excellent shoulder placement. Moved well with drive maintaining topline. CC. 2. Norton’s, Ch. Matzell Mateus. Red. Good head. Good reach of neck. Excellent shoulders. Strode out well. RCC. 3. McNaughton’s, Aust Ch/Ch Nicholyev the Hobbit (Imp).
V. (2). 1. Ch. Marictur Marnie. B/t lady I have admired before in very good condition. Carrying her age well. BV. 2. Spooner’s, Penrose Trilby. 11 years young and enjoying her day.
PB. (6). 1. Burke and Manston’s, Bonavior Griannan. Chocolate and tan. Lovely head set on reachy neck. Good shoulder placement and depth of keel. Well angulated behind. Strode out well maintaining topline. BP. 2. McNaughton’s, Cerdarvoch Aarwen. Red girl. Same remarks as winner. Difficult to separate these two lovely girls. 3. Mitchell and Magrath’s, Dubrys Lady Chattydach.
JB. (4). 1. Lovick-Gibbs and Gibbs’, Roleta the Name of the Game. Lively b/t youngster. Stood away in this class. Excellent should placement. Good hind angulation. Moved out well with hind thrust, maintaining topline. I shall follow her career with interest. 2. Burke and Manston’s, Bonavoir Coppelia. Another b/t. Pretty head. Deeper keel and length than winner and tended to pin in behind. 3. Walkley’s, Churckoak Naughty Nun.
PGB. (12). 1. Hunt’s, Carpaccio Tanzanite JW. Well balanced b/t. Good head and eye. Excellent shoulder placement. Good length of ribbing. Well angulated behind. Moved with drive maintaining topline. RCC. 2. Norton’s, Tenrow Mono Maid for Matzell. Red girl. Deeper chest than winner but well angulated both ends. Moved out well maintaining topline. 3. Burke and Manston’s, Ranglewood Genevieve from Bonavior.
LB. (7). 1. Turner’s, Marictur Miss Midnight. B/t lady. My notes say ‘Neat and Tisy’. Certainly not the biggest exhibit of the day, but I fell her elegance and lovely head carriage. Excellent shoulder placement. Good length of rib. Well angulated behind so she strode out well maintaining her topline. Delighted to award her the CC and BOB. She was later short listed in the Group and declared Best Dachshund in Show. 2. Armstrong’s, Lauralee Theme for a Dream. Red girl. Deep keel. Good angulation both ends. Moved ell maintaining topline. 3. Goad’s, Meganhol. Abracadabra.
OB. (5). 1. Dalgety’s, Thundergay Lady be Good. B/t, good shoulders and hind angulation. Moved out well maintaining topline. Felt she could perhaps carry a little less weight to advantage. 2. McNaughton’s, Aust Ch/Ch. Nicholyev Galadriel (Imp). B/t good shoulder placement and head. I preferred hindquarters of winner. 3. Adams’, Rosanport Cracklin Rosie.
