Smooth Haired Dachshunds
Thank you to the Scottish Dachshund Association for giving me the opportunity of awarding CCs in this variety of dachshund for the first time. A variety whose coat allows them to hide nothing, literally what you see is what you get. I think my placings may have altered somewhat had we been outside on grass and with a larger ring. I only found one slightly incorrect bite and all teeth were clean. So many though had poor feet, flat, down on the pasterns, wrinkle and with long nails. Road work and short nails would improve appearance, but good feet have to be bred for. Quite a few were short in upper arm, which showed in front movement, they lacked extension. Rear construction also in quite a few cases was poor, so they lacked drive and extension, others who looked fine moved with what I can only describe as a roll when going away from me. Heads though were good and bodies on the whole were well ribbed up, with ribbing going well back. JD (1) 1. McNaughton’s Cedavoch High Treason RCC. chocolate dog, who really appealed and came within a whisker of taking the ticket. Masculine head, good reach of neck, well placed shoulders with correct angulation, so front movement had extension, prominent forechest, ribbing carried well back, short coupled, nicely rounded rump, short hocks, moved out well behind, had good feet to add to the picture. In the challenge I prefered this one going away from me but in profile did not feel he had quite the freedom of the winner, but not an easy decision. PGD (7) 1. Hunt’s D’Arisca Class Distinction At Carpaccio. Another good coloured chocolate with a masculine head, good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, prominent forechest, good ribbing, short coupled, front movement good, but I did not feel his rear end matched up to his front construction and this showed in his movement. 2. Melbourne’s Sunhaze St John Of Melriding. Red who was a little apprehensive, nice head, prominent forechest, good ribbing, little short in upper arm, which showed in his front movement, good body and ribbing. 3. Armstrong’s Lauralee Guard Of Honour. Good head, length and depth of ribbing, but very poor feet with wrinkle, well angulated quarters. LD (6) 1. Bate’s Batendach Rhinestone Cowboy, another good coloured chocolate, masculine head and expression, a little upright in shoulder, so movement lacked extension, good body and length of ribbing. I liked his rear construction, which allowed him to move with drive, maintaining a level topline both standing and moving. 2. Jeffries’ Rosenket What A Wizard At Andax. Larger B/T, whose rear movement let him down, as it was quite close. Good body with ribbing carried well back, good length of keel. 3. Marsden’s Brigadier Brock, red, who was lighter boned, moved out better behind than in front. OD (6) 1. Bethel’s Ch Hampdach Autumn Quest. CC. very masculine head, with excellent front construction and movement, prominent forechest, good length of keel and ribbing carried well back. Good rear movement, but when viewed from the rear I just felt his quarters were just too hammy which spoilt his outline and it was this that cost him BOB. 2. Mc Naughton’s Ch & Au Ch Nicholyev The Hobbit, red dog, who I have liked since he began his show career in this country, for his front construction is excellent, short coupled, level topline, but today could not match the rear movement of the winner. 3. Bate’s Ir Ch Batendach Taylor Made B/T with a good front, body and ribbing, but could not match the rear of one and two. PB (5) 1. Hinwood & Little’s Longmel Double Trouble. BPIB. Very feminine B/T young lady, good reach of neck, leading to well placed shoulders, moved out with front extension, good body and length of ribbing, well constructed rear, moved with some drive, maintained a level topline both standing and moving. Should have a promising future. 2. Dalgety’s Thundergay Bohemienne another B/T, who had a cyst between two front claws, which caused her to favour that leg at times, otherwise a very nice youngster who is well constructed both front and rear, who when the problem is dealt with should have a promising future, for there is a lot to like about her. 3. Trafford’s Dabrenhof Sally Ann another B/T whose front construction was not as good as the other two, but her rear construction was quite good and she had a well made body, moved out maintaining a level top line. JB (6) 1. Mc Naughton’s Cedavoch Integrity B/T litter sister to junior dog and very like him in construction, won this class on her sound rear movement, as she is well constructed here. Feminine head with a good reach of neck, which leads to well placed shoulders, prominent forechest maintains her topline both standing and on the move. 2. Hunt’s Carpaccio Tanzanite, very like first in construction, who moved well in front, but could not match the rear movement, this young lady showed a slight roll, but promising when she strengthens in the rear. 3. Bethel’s Hampdach Calypso Girl, chocolate youngster, who is just over the year, and is still very much a baby, slight in body at moment but shows promise. PGB (4) 1. Turner’s Marictur Miss Midnight CC and BOB, well presented and very well handled youngster, who moved around the ring with her head up and on a loose lead. Feminine head, good reach of neck running into well placed shoulders, prominent forechest, good length of ribbing, well angulated rear, moved with front extension and drive from the rear. Could possibly develop a little more over the loin area, but has time on her side and is a very promising exhibit. I hope she will go from strength to strength. 2. Dalgety’s Thundergay Society Girl B/T larger bitch than one, nice head, possibly a little upright in shoulder, good body ribbing and rear, moved quite well and maintained a level topline. 3. Bethel’s Hamdach Spell caster B/T third of a nice trio, but not so positive in rear movement. LB (5) 1. Dalgety’s Thundergay At A Glance B/T some wrinkle and rather short on reach of neck, and a little upright in shoulder, which affected front movement, good ribbing and rear construction, so moved well behind and maintained a level topline. 2. Bate’s Batendach Gemstone, chocolate girl, with a better reach of neck than one, with well placed shoulders, good ribbing and short coupled, maintained a level topline. 3. Armstrong’s Lauralee Theme For A Dream, red bitch with poor front feet, prominent forechest, good body and rear construction, so moved with some drive. OB (7) 1. McNaughtons Ch Cedavoch Wintertime RCC. bitch with excellent front construction, prominent forechest, good reach of neck, moved with front extension, good ribbing short coupled, level topline standing and moving, good rear construction, but I just felt her rear movement lacked a little of the drive of the CC winner, she does have lovely tight feet. 2. Dalgety’s Thundergay Lady Be Good B/T very close up to one, but front movement not quite up to that of Wintertime and I felt she was just a little too deep in body. 3. Orr’s Batendach Just Joy At Dacharouse. Lighter built B/T who moved quite well front and rear.
