SMOOTH HAIRED
Two shows within a week in the same area that’s ok for the
northern exhibitors but a long trek for the southerners, one show was bound to
suffer! I guess I was lucky to receive an entry of 44 considering today’s
entries for this breed. Despite the windy conditions I decided to stay outside
and I thought the exhibits and exhibitors coped well having being around long
enough to witness such greats as Diplomat- Loudlaughter- Troubador- Madrical and
Maid To Measure just to mention a few. I was looking for what I consider in a
smooth dachshund the three important ingredients, long, low and level
accompanied with bone and substance, conical shaped heads, level top lines and
good underlines. Today I had a variation of heads, some poor underlines which
where far to short and tucked up; although not all doom and gloom, my day was
saved when a SPECIAL- DELIVERY was made!
MPD (3) 1 Rawson Rosenket Kaptain Kirk. b/t baby of just 6 months old, well
forward for his age and has lots to like about him. A classic head with good eye
and strength in foreface and strength in under jaw, correct length in neck
flowing into a good layback of shoulder. His top line is good, although at this
stage understandably just needs to firm up. He has a lovely rear with well bent
stifles and short hocks. For one so young he moved out soundly coping with the
conditions, presented in good bloom and well handled should do well, best puppy
dog. 2 Armstrong Lauralee Charles Dickens. b/t plenty to like about this chap as
well, he has a classic head which is well balanced, very good in outline, just
not the development in body as the winner and did appear to be unsettled by the
conditions.
JD (1) 1 Cooper-Kerry Sontag Sir Cumfrence of Kierton. b/t of merit,
correct in head qualities with a keen eye, well filled fore chest standing on
correct bone with good compact feet. Overall he has a well balanced profile with
good angles both fore and aft sound on the out and back and kept a profile on
the go around. Should finish up a decent dog with normal progression.
YD (1) 1 Walkley Churchoak Cardinalsin. choc/tan a fair exhibit all
through, masculine head with an ok eye, very good body proportions with ribs
carried well back, his top line is good which led to a well angulated stifle. Ok
in forward reach but not so positive in the rear.
PGD (2,1 ab) 1 Macdonald, Carpaccio Black Out at Bensarka. b/t decent
individual with a good outline, liked him for his overall make and shape, stood
on good bone with well padded feet, a little upright in shoulder but this did
not detract from his move on the out and back presented in fine order.
LD (5) 1 Oxley Lauralee the Real Thing at Owlery. a grand stamp of a dog. I
would have preferred a slightly better eye but after that there’s plenty to like
about this chap. Super in body proportions, well filled fore chest, excellent
bone and feet, great ribs which are let down to his elbow and carried well back.
Rock hard top line and good underline, excellent quarters with well bent
stifles, he powered around the ring with excellent reach and drive, kept his
profile on the go around. He was presented in very good order. His coat was
gleaming, simply would not be denied, pleased to award him his first cc. Hope he
gets his just rewards and gains his crown!!! 2 Eales & Tite Lauralee the X
Factor. another exhibit that appealed to me for type. Correct in head, neck and
shoulders, good length throughout, with a level top line and well set tail
leading to well angulated stifles. Gave off a good profile when stacked, however
I felt that this exhibit would benefit for carrying a little more weight, moved
ok. 3 Punter Welcumen Kiss Me Quick.
OD (6) 1 Hunt Carpaccio Black Sabbath. a very honest dog with lots to like
about him. Typical head of the correct conical shape, excellent neck flowing
into a clean shoulder well filled fore chest, well ribbed level top line leading
to a good tail set and well angulated quarters. Very sound both coming and going
and kept his top line on the go around. As usual from this kennel he was
presented in fine condition and so well schooled. When it came to the challenge
I just felt the limit winner wanted it more so had to settle for the res cc
today. 2 Armstrong Ch Lauralee Lloyd George. a dog that I have in the past
admired and still have not changed my opinion about him. He has a glorious head
with a good eye which gives him that arrogant expression. Excellent fore chest
and a well angulated rear. He has done so well for his clever owner breeder
today however I felt he lacked body condition and was not too happy on the move.
3 Coxon, Allen, Henningsen Am Ch Jagies I love the Night Life. red of merit
excellent, in profile with good body proportions, good bone with neat feet, very
good ribs which are carried well back. His temperament is A1 and I can see this
chap being an asset to some breeding programs if allowed.
MPB (4) 1 Rawson Rosenket Crystal Singer. litter sister to Captain Kirk
and has all the attributes to do just as well. Ultra feminine head qualities
with a good eye and expression. Correct angles both fore and aft, well ribbed,
good bone and feet. Moved steadily on the out and back and kept her composure on
the go around. At this tender age still has to firm up but with time this will
develop. Another one with a bright future. 2 Hinwood Longmel Triple Truffle.
excellent in outline and feminine all through, but just would not put her best
foot forward so had to pay the penalty. 3 Trafford Rosenket Jewel in the Crown
at Dabrenhof.
PB (2) 1 Hunt Carpaccio Precious Pearl. stood alone here but it would
have taken a good one to topple her. She has quality to spare, correct in head
which is so feminine, good eye giving an arrogant expression. She is so well
balanced throughout; has a lovely outline, stands on good bone with well padded
feet, her angles are so true which enables her cover the ground with ease. As
usual presented in first class order and well schooled. No hesitation today best
puppy in breed.
JB (8) 1 Walkley Churchoak Modesty Blazes. a very well balanced bitch,
feminine head qualities with a kind eye, very good neck well, filled fore chest.
Stands on good bone with feet ok, moved with purpose keeping a level top line at
all times, very true on the out and back and was well presented. 2 Norton
Matzell, Maid of Honour. another quality exhibit and not much too separate
between these two. Ultra feminine in head good eye very good balance in body
proportions, well ribbed, correct in top line, again kept her composure on the
go around, no doubt will change places. 3 Holburn Phaeland Strathisla Dawn.
completing a trio of interesting bitches.
YB (1) 1 Dalgety Thundergay Magdalena. again stood alone but warranted
first place. Correct head proportions with good eye, well filled fore chest,
good ribs, level topline and well developed quarters, slightly loose in
underline, moved ok both ways.
PgB (2) 1 Gatheral-Graham Phaeland Special Delivery. wow I was not
expecting this at all. Totally grabbed my imagination and sent me back to the
hay days of the true smooth dachshund. Could have sworn I saw Alf Hauge looking
down and nodding with approval! A bitch that has class, quality, substance and
ring presence, the best conical shaped head. Here today with a true dark eye of
the correct size which gave off such an arrogant look. Her body is so well
balanced with excellent length, terrific fore chest and ribbing and the best
underline of the day. Her top line is perfect which leads to a well developed
rear with an excellent bend off stifle and short parallel hocks, she is so well
constructed that she cannot fail to move. With accurate rear drive and forward
reach on the go around she kept a perfect profile even when at times she was
allowed to free stand she still looked superb. I am well aware at times she
looked a little apprehensive, but considering what had happened to her at an
earlier show I think her owners have done really well to get her back, after
all you do not need to prod and poke a smooth haired dachshund its there for all
to see! I honestly believe that your breed has a true champion waiting in the
wings and I hope that she dose not have to wait too long to wear her deserving
crown. Good luck to her owner breeders, thank you for the privilege. No
hesitation cc bob. 2 Hoburn Phaeland Some Dreamer. so unlucky to run into the
winner in such fine form please keep trying!
LB (6) A class of varying types, with pluses and minuses. 1 Bethel
Hampdach Dulcina. won this class on her overall balance, feminine head with good
eye, neck ok. Well filled front, excellent ribs, level top line and well
developed quarters. It’s on the move that this bitch separated herself from the
rest, showing excellent rear drive and keeping a good profile on the go around.
2 Armstrong Lauralee Under Milkwood. lovely bitch to go over and has plenty to
like about. A feminine head, good front, ribbing, correct in top line, today
however was not as positive in rear. 3 Bethel Regendachs Rich and Famous at
Hampdach.
OB (5) 1 Norton Ch Matzell Melua. quality girl and well deserves her
crown, super to go over, feminine head of correct shape enhanced by a good eye,
excellent front assembly and a well filled fore chest, very good ribbing, level
top line leading to a well developed rear with parallel hocks. Moved positive on
the out and back and kept a good profile on the go around. Present in excellent
condition. RCC today. 2 Armstong Lauralee Single Girl. feminine head, well
filled fore chest, excellent body with good ribs, kept her top line on the go
around. 3 Melbourne Lauralee Take that to Melriding.
