Dachshund (Smooth-Haired)

SMOOTH HAIRED

 The last time I judged Smooths with CCs was 2004. Since then the Dachshund world has changed enormously. We now have a breed council which seems to be working very well. Many never thought this would come about, but it has, and I, like many judges, have had to do our homework of the revised Breed Standard. For me, size was a problem. Most today were over 26lbs. The words “moderately”, “no exaggeration” remain the key words. Any show of nervous temperament I penalised. My first time awarding KCChallenge Certificates was at WELKS in 1984, I thank the committee for inviting me to judge today as this is my farewell adjudicating Smooth Haired Dachshunds. Thank you all for entering under me. I’ve had such happy times judging some great quality Smooths, and I thank you for accepting my decisions in such a sportsmanlike manner. Good luck to you all.

PD(4) 1 Jeffery’s Carpaccio Summer Class At Andax. Very little separated these four pups. All of good construction, some had gay tails. Just happy boys enjoying their day out, when showing gets serious they will soon carry their tails down! First was a 10 month quality b/t, handsome head with expressive well shaped dark eye, well boned, lovely outline, well angulated, of good construction throughout, keeping topline on the move, in lovely condition, well presented and handled on a loose lead. BPIB. 2 Higgins’ Leveliss This Charming Man. First show, lovely in all departments, a quality pup of six months, beautifully presented and handled, good conformation, should do well with luck. 3 Jones’ Adnerbs Smooth Criminal.

JD(4) 1 Turner’s Rafthouse Non Peecee. RCC. Well balanced b/t, 13 months, of quality with excellent conformation, lovely head, good shaped dark eye, looked good standing and on the move, keeping topline, long arched neck running into well placed shoulders, moved soundly using his strong hindquarters to really move, in excellent condition and very well presented and handled. 2 Lovick-Gibbs’ Tealby Pride N Prejudice Now Roleta. Quality b/t of 14 months, smaller than first, well balanced showing a good outline both standing and on the move, good head and eye, of good conformation, well handled and presented. 3 Chambers’ Rijobeau I Swear Ya Honour At Viewmoor.

PGD(2) 1 Furber’s Gameron Smart Choice To Dorysa. Quality 18 month b/t, good size, good head and well shaped eye, oval front, good topline and quarters, moving soundly, well presented and handled. 2 Linacre’s Cavalleria Rusticana. Quality red, four and a half year old of good breed type, looked lovely standing and on the move, sound, bit fond of his tail, well presented and handled.

LD(3) 1 Hedges’ Roleta Red Boots To Shine For Silandajo. Quality s/r in good condition, good head, eye, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, ribbing carried well back to strong hindquarters which he used to move soundly, well handled and presented. 2 Ellis’ Tealby’s Another Rumour In Red. Quality red, 20 months, well balanced of good construction, very little to choose between them, two good hounds, preferred topline of first, sound, well presented and handled. 3 Starkey’s Carpaccio Top Of The Class At Hamoura.

OD(8) 1 Hunt’s Am Ch Bessdachs Beam Me Up At Carpaccio (Imp). Lovely class. Two year old b/t in gleaming condition, well balaced, of great quality, correct size with superb temperament, excellent conformation, handsome head, dark expressive almond eye, oval front, well kept feet, arched neck running into well placed shoulders, good topline and underline, strong hindquarters, used to move soundly, keeping good topline, well deserved his third CC. Very well presented and handled. 2 Cooper’s Ch Sontag Simon Le Bone JW. Well balanced b/t, five and a half years, very good construction, showing lovely outline both standing and on the move, moved soundly, in good condition, well handled and presented. 3 Armstrong’s Ch Lauralee Lloyd George.

PB(6, 2) Lovely class. 1 Rawson’s Rosenket Opal Essence. Quality b/t, 1 year old, showing lovely silhouette in excellent condition, should do well, lovely on the move, topline needs to firm up, well presented and handled. 2 Higgins’ Leveliss What She Said. Sister to second in puppy dog class, just 6 months, similar remarks, very feminine, pretty pup in excellent condition, well presented and handled. 3 Williams’ Rijobeau Innet Tu Winnit By Cwmdarhian TAF.

JB(1) 1 Bethel’s Hampdach Black Opal. 15 month b/t of quality, lovely size, excellent conformation, good head and eye, in lovely condition, bit fond of her tail, but should be no problem with time, well handled and presented.

PGB(3, 1) 1 Ellis’ Tealby Tittle Tattle. Well balanced 20 months b/t of quality, correct size, excellent conformation, good head and eye, good bone and well kept feet, looked lovely standing and on the move, keeping topline, sound, in very good condition, well presented and handled. 2 Punter’s Abbagirls Here I Am At Welcumen. Quality red, 19 months, larger type, good head and eye, good quarters, well presented.

LB(8) 1 Norton’s Matzell Mildred. CC and BOB. Shaded red of great quality, 19 months, of correct size, well balanced, showing a beautiful silhouette, feminine head, expressive dark almond eye, oval front, well kept feet, arched neck running into good shoulders and upper arm, good keel, ribs, topline, well let down behind, super on the move, so sound, in gleaming condition, perfectly presented and handled. I loved her, pleased to award her her crowning CC. 2 Turner’s Marictur Moulin Rouge. Quality red, two and a half years, excellent construction, another correct size, typical head and expression, correct angulation, looked lovely standing and on the move, keeping topline, sound, well handled and presented. 3 Cooper’s Lauralee Coco Pops To Sontag.

OB(8, 1) 1 Norton’s Ch Matzell Maid Of Honour. RCC. A class of excellent bitches. A quality red from the same kennel as my BOB, in excellent condition and great quality. I see both my top awards in bitches are by “roll of honour”, correct size, well balanced, lovely head carriage, well placed shoulders, top and underline, used her hindquarters to move soundly, as expected well presented and handled. 2 Armstrong’s Lauralee Peeping Fawn. Well balanced s/r, 2 years old, of top quality and excellent conformation, showing a lovely outline standing and on the move, sound, very well presented and handled. 3 Rawson’s Ch Rosenket Krystal Singer.
