SMOOTH HAIRED DACHSHUND
My first time judging Smooths, although I have judged Dachshunds for 20 years. A little disappointed in the entry numerically, however the quality of those present was high. PD. (3,2). 1. Tite's, Rijobeau Hot On Ya Heels. RCC and BP. Classy 9 month old b/w. What an exciting prospect this young dog is. Lovely for type and carries himself so well. Has attitude in abundance and constructionally is spot on. Pleased in head, neck, well filled oval forechest, balanced angulation front and rear. Lengthy ribbing. Firm topline. Moved out so soundly with lots of freedom in his movement. Thoroughly deserved the RCC and I was delighted to see him take BPIS. JD. (1). 1. Norton's, Matzell Man of the Moment. Most attractive light red of 15 months. Has many of his mother's attributes. Lovely head and eye. Good in forehand construction, well ribbed back. Pleased in top and underline. Moved out freely and soundly. Can still firm up in hindquarters. PGD. (3,1). 1. Gatheral-Gratham's, Phaeland Screw Driver. Most attractive light red of 21 months. Most handsome head and expresion. Balanced construction. Prominent pro sternum and well filled front. Lovely bone and feet. Sound if somewhat reluctant mover. I am sure he has much more to give. 2. Lewis and Eddies', Abbagirls For Me and my Gal Welcumen. 2 year old lighter framed shaped red of pleasing type. Smart balanced outline with lots to like. Prominent pro sternum and well filled oval thorax. Could not match the construction of winner. LD. (4,2). 1 Tite's, Rijobeau Caught Red Handled. Yet another impressive youngster with this affix. 17 month old well bodied red. Firm in outline. Excellent in both forehand and hind construction. Lovely feet and bone. Sound in movement. Would ideally like smoother, cleaner muscling on shoulders. 2. McNaughton's, Cedavoch Born to Boogie. Lengthy 3 year old red. Pleased at the stance. Handsome head and eye. Lengthy neck, firm topline. Preferred the fore and hind angulation of the winner which was reflected in movement. OD. (5,1). 1. Hunt's, Ch. Lauralee Living Daylights at Carpaccio. CC., Such a handsome 2 year old b/r, is so proud in his outlook and presents a picture of a balanced outline. Excellent fore and hind angulation. Well filled oval thorax with prominent pro sternum. Ribbing carried well back. Pleasing top and underline. Moved out freely, sound away and back. To nit pick I would prefer better feet. 2. Chamber's, Ch. Rijobeau I Swear Ya Honor at Vieldmoor. This affix was certainly to the fore on the day. 2 year old light red of excellent type. Smart in outline. Excellent bone and feet. Constructionally close up to winner but I felt that he did not move so freely as winner and in the challenge the puppy moved with such enthusiasm. 3. Lusk's, Ch. Cedarvoch Celebdil. PB. (2). 1. Tite's, Rijobeau Done n Dusted. 9 month old b/t litter sister to "Hot On Ya Heels" what a lovely litter of high quality. Very pleasing all round. Scored in head and eye, forehand, reachy neck, topline, hindquarters and ribbing. Good bone and feet. Very proud outlook. At present a little proud of her tail. Moved out smartly. In the challenge for BP thought that her brother pulled out all the stops. 2. Hunt's, Carpaccio Black Saffire. Attractive 8 month old b/t of pleasing size. Lots to like and well put together. Again moved out soundly and smartly. Preferred her tail set to winner. Would like to see more reach of neck. JB. (2). 1. Norton's, Matzell Maid to Match. 15 months old light red litter sister to Man of the Moment. Much the same remarks apply. Clean and firm in outline. Pleasing head and eye. Pleased in forehand. Can still drop in hindquarters. Well ribbed back. Can still strengthen in hind action. 2. Lewis and Eddies', Kauldwell State of Play. Neat b/t of 15 months. Pleasing head and eye. Slightly ligter in build. Smart outline on the stack. Good forechest development. Again nicely ribbed back. Not as positive in movement as winner. PGB. (3,1). 1. Gatheral-Graham's, Phaeland Special Duty. Most attractive 21 month old red with lots to like. Lovely outline. Very good in fore and hind construction. Good bone and feet. Well ribbed back. Was her own worst enemy, reluctant on the move and I am sure she can do better than this. Another lovely example of the breed though. LB. (9,3). 1. Gatheral-Graham's, Rijobeau League of Honour. I was very taken with this elegant 2 year old red. Super length and outline. So feminine. Lovely head and eye. Scored in both forehand and hind construction. Well ribbed back. Pleased in top and underline. Was a little reluctant at first to show off her many virtues, but several laps of the ring brought out the best. Am sure that she is capable of much better things. Was a serious contender. 2. Tite's, Rijobeau Matron of Honour. Litter sister to winner and much the same comments apply. Upstanding example of the breed. Lovely bone and feet. Firm and balanced in outline. The sheer femininity of winner took the day, must have a bright future. 3. Trafford's, Dabrenhof Sally Forth. OB. (7,2). Trio of super bitches. 1. Hunt's, Lauralee Miss Chokey Wokey at Carpaccio. CC and BOB. 2 year old chocolate on top form. Looked stunning and looks so much better with her trimmer figure. Loved everything about her. Head, eye, front, neck, well ribbed back, balanced outline with complimentary angulation front and rear. Good bone and well bunched feet. Was so neat and sound in her movement. So pleased to be told that this makes her up. 2. Norton's, Ch. Matzell Maid of Honour. RCC. Firm favourite of mine, having given her G4 at WKC 2009. Constructionally still spot on. Lovely balanced outline and sound movement. Was just not in the same bloom as when we last met and had to give way to a bitch on top form. 3. Norton's, Ch. Matzell Mildred.
