I very much enjoyed judging the
Smooths, to me the blueprint of all Dachshund varieties. Type was mixed, but
overall they were a pleasing bunch, and temperament - without exception - was
excellent. Some dogs were carrying far too much weight, and feet and nails in
some left much to be desired. Overall they were well presented. DOGS
MP (3) 1 Norton's Matzell Man Of The Match. Shaded red boy of
lovely make and shape. A bit overawed on this, his first trip out but gave a
credible performance and moved soundly. 2 Ellis' Tealby Red Sail In The Sunset.
Shaded red dog of similar type with much to commend him, not as mature as 1 and
still needing to tighten up. 3 Wand's Leveliss Rakish Paddy. PD
(2) 1 Ellis' Tealby Red Between The Lines. Very stylish and elegant red boy of
decent construction. Really stood away on the move, showing good drive and
extension and keeping a firm topline. BPD. 2 Seago & Gibbard's Amlida Dramatiker.
Red dog who's outline was spoilt due to an excess of weight, especially over his
shoulders. Fair and steady mover. JD (5,2) 1 Armstrong's
Lauralee Galileo. Houndy black & tan boy with hound written all over him! Bone
and substance to spare, masculine head & good reach of neck. Well-placed
shoulders & good length & spring of rib. Well-angulated rear which he really
used here, super dog. RCC. 2 Burke & Manston's Bonavoir Time Lord. Black & tan
boy of different type, being smaller and finer than 1. Moved out well showing a
clean pair of heels. Nicely presented. 3 Jones's Hampdach Who Made Who For
Adnerb. PGD (3) 1 Jones' Adnerb Smooth Criminal. Red dog of
nice make & shape. Could have more bone for me, but a clear winner here. Moved
with drive and well-presented. 2 Marsh's Marshwick Blackberry. Black & tan dog
of heavier type but not quite as scopey overall. Well-angulated rear & decent
mover. 3 Jesse & Jordan's Rill Scaramouche. LD (4) 1 Higgins'
Leveliss This Charming Man. Absolutely super black & tan who had everything I
was looking for. So neat & tidy all through, I found him very hard to fault.
Super head proportions and reach of neck, textbook front and shoulders with
terrific ribbing. Short, strong loin and hammy, well-angulated quarters. Moved
like a bomb and looked like he could go all day. Delighted to award him his 2nd
CC & BOB - am sure he will go on to bigger and better things. Well presented and
handled. 2 Rawson's Rosenket Nostra Damus. Elegant black & tan boy, unlucky to
meet 1. Slightly more leg and length all through, but is so soundly made and
excels in front construction. Moved with reach & drive, keeping a firm topline.
Presented and handled well. 3 Jeffry's Carpaccio Summer Class At Andax Sh.Cm.
OD (3,1) 1 Ellis' Ch. Tealby Another Rumour In Red. Elegant but houndy
head in which you can certainly see the American influence. A really sound &
honest dog of super construction, especially in front, which is where he scored
over 2. Moved soundly but felt he could have put more in and shown a bit more
drive. 2 Natalchenko & Bethel's Russian Grand Ch. Hampdach Famous Rumourz. Clear
red boy of completely different type. Moved out really well, but preferred front
construction of 1. MPB (5) 1 Norton's Matzell Maid In Time.
Elegant shaded red with the blackest of pigment. Ultra-feminine & elegant, she
is more mature than her brother and a lot more positive on the move. Beautifully
made all through, I am sure she has a very bright future ahead of her. Pleased
to award her best puppy, and delighted to hear she went on to BPIS. 2 Higgins'
Leveliss Drink Down The Moon. Red bitch of similar type, but a bit heftier.
Really well constructed, just needing to settle in front a bit here. Really
positive mover with well-angulated rear & firm topline. Most promising. 3
Gowlett's Minalsa Marensaray. PB (2,1) 1 Jones' Adnerbs Betty
Boop. Red bitch, alone here but a worthy winner. Very elegant and stylish, she
is well made all through and presents a clean outline. Comes into her own on the
move, just needs to calm down a bit! JB (5,1a) 1 Rawson's
Rosenket Pillow Talk. Black & tan bitch who stood away here. Fab head with
terrific reach of neck, super shoulders with good layback. Really well ribbed up
with strong, well-angulated rear. Absolutely full of herself, she gave her
handler a tough time of it, but when she decided to keep four feet on the ground
she moved like a bomb - showing terrific drive and extension without appearing
to have to make much effort. Shown in tiptop condition and very well-handled.
Pleased to award her the CC, the first of many, I hope. 2 Burke & Manston's
Hampdach Cornelia With Bonavoir. Red bitch of nice type, good head proportions
with decent reach of neck, neat front and well-laid shoulders. Well-angulated
quarters & moved out soundly. Not the length of stride of 1, but nonetheless a
very tidy bitch. 3 Bethel's Hampdach Coraline. PGB (7) 1
Rawson's Rosenket Nectar Of The Gods. Another lovely black & tan bitch from this
consistent kennel. Again excelled in front construction, with spot-on shoulders.
Moved so soundly, with great drive and extension. Well presented and handled, by
same sire as my CC winner. 2 Ellis' Tealby Little Dorrit. Black & tan bitch of
smaller type, and lower to ground than 1. A little hesitant but presented a
glorious outline when relaxed. Really nicely put together and a positive mover.
3 Bethel's Hampdach Copperhead Rose. LB (6) 1 Rawson's Rosenket
Opal Essence. Black & tan bitch, again of lovely type, with the same, super,
head; neck; front & shoulder placement. Good length & depth of rib and
well-angulated rear. Moved effortlessly with good drive & extension. Shown to
advantage, again by the same sire as all 3 of her kennelmates. 2 Armstrong's
Cwmdarhian Thyme Will Tell. Black & tan bitch of different type but with much to
like. Heavier and lower to ground, but so well-made all through. Excels in
ribbing and hind construction, and moves really well showing a clean pair of
heels. Dam of dog RCC. 3 Ellis' Tealby Tittle Tattle. OB (5) 1
Norton's Ch. Matzell Mildred. Elegant red bitch put down in lovely condition.
Not a great deal more I can add to her well-documented show career, albeit it to
say I can see why she has been so successful - being hard to fault. Moved out
well, but lost out to CC winner on length of stride today. Nonetheless a most
worthy champion, and very pleased to award her the RCC. 2 Lovick Gibbs' Ch.
Roleta Keepin Up Appearances. Red bitch I have always admired greatly, but sadly
carrying too much weight here - which concealed her otherwise beautiful outline.
So well-constructed all through, but have seen her move better. 3 Armstrong's
Ch. Lauralee Peeping Fawn
