A variety I always look forward to judging, as you hope to find real Dachshund
type and no coat to hide anything. Judged with our new and very clear standard
very much in mind, looking for a Dachshund that was not too long or too low or
overdone. In short, something that looked like it could work all day. Whilst my
BOB has her failings, she met that criteria. Feet that could dig the right
size, carrying the right amount of weight and she is parallel going away. It
may have been the carpet, but so many didn't use their rears at all. I thought
she was just a bit more together in neck and topline than the choc pup I gave
RCC to, who has a bit to do yet, but is very well proportioned. For BOB the dog
rather 'poked' whilst she went round holding her shape. I think temperaments
are much improved and I am sure this is part of the key to boosting the
popularity of Smooths. Size is also so much improved, but so many were shown
too heavy. They wobbled on the move and it made some of them so nearly touch
the floor. Having said size is better, 26lbs is the upper limit, I feel sure my
top bitches were under this. Feet I am afraid are a major problem. The majority
are bad, spreading flat feet and long nails, often turning in because the front
is so heavy are no use to a Dachshund if it is to work. This is another area
where the BOB winner beat so many. Most are too long in loin. My big surprise
was mouths. Three 'dodgy' bites and some with missing incissors (more so in the
top jaw) or some incissors so small they were just noticeable, something to
watch before it spreads. I know you can't fix everything at once and the change
in temperament is excellent, size is coming and a bit less food would help,
even more. Length, feet and hind action need to be thought about next.
VD(2) 1 Linacre's Caalleria Rusticana. 7 yrs old red d in super bloom,
lengthy masculine head, ears a bit low set, good neck, correct forechest, nice
deep feet, lengthy ribs but too long in loin, well made rear, true out and back
and holds a firm topline. 2 Jeffery's Rosenket Heir Apparent At Andax ShCM.
Choc d, rather out of coat and carrying a bit too much weight, super head,
lovely eyes, long neck, well laid shoulder, chest too deep and a bit long in
loin, not using his rear so well now. Sp
JD(4) 1 Starkey's Carpaccio Jasper From Hamoura. Correct size b/t of
very good balance and type, masculine head of length, super neck, best shoulder
in class, correct depth of chest, would like a little shorter in loin, holds
outline on the move and true out and back, very good rear, just needs to settle
to the job to make up. 2 Macdonald's Bensarka Cosmopolitan. Bigger red d with a
super temperament, super head, good neck, not the shoulder and upper arm of
first, well ribbed but too long in loin, high set tail, uses his rear well. 3
Coxon's Bensarka Incognito. Another lovely temperament on this red dog,
masculine, just a bit too low and long, very good forechest, super spring of
rib, long ribcage, too much hind angulation.
PGD(8) Rather a difficult class to sort, somewhat mixed for type. 1
Ellis' Tealby Red Between The Lines. Still looks rather raw, Is a very well put
together dog, super head, dark almond eyes, long neck, well laid shoulder,
better feet than many, very good rear, true out and back, needs to fill in the
middle, correct size. 2 Cox &Cobo-Pinto &Fellows' Ralines Dark Knight. Very
good size masculine dog in most super bloom, very good head, long neck flows
into topline, very well ribbed and correct ground clearance, feet let him down
and could be better coming towards, nice rear. 3 Jones' Hampdach Who Made Who
For Adnerb. Honest red d, just a bit narrow in front, liked his neck,
proportions ok, has a level topline, correct amount of hind angulation, would
like more bone, feet ok.
LD (7, 1) 1 Cooper's Kochana's Celebration Of Hacienda At Sontag JW
(Imp USA). Although a fraction long, this d has a classy Dachshund outline and
everything flows, add correct size, good temperament and enough ground
clearance, very good head, just a bit throaty, super neck, well laid shoulder
and pretty good upper arm, well ribbed back, correct hind angulation, uses his
rear so well. RCC. 2 Norton's Matzell Man Of The Moment. Dog of very good size
and type, again he has enough leg length, super head, dark eyes, lengthy neck,
just a bit forward in front assembly and short upper arm, well ribbed, correct
hind angles and low hocks. 3 Jeffery's Carpaccio Summer Class At Andax ShCM.
Carrying a bit too much weight, has a lovely head, his true out and back
movement secured the place, less weight would improve neck, well balanced
angulation.
OD(9) 1 MacDonald's Bensarka Phoenix Sun. He is a very sound moving
dog of correct temperament and fair size, super head, long neck, fairly good
shoulder, upper arm a bit short, holds a super topline, very good rear, very
good feet, in super bloom. CC. 2 Zubareva's Russkiy Assorti'c Zefir (ATC
AL01032RUS). Very different in type to first. I liked his size and leg length,
would like a better topline, he is a fraction long and not the rear of first,
very good head, strong neck, pretty good feet, very good underline. 3 Rawson's
Rosenket Nostra Damus. Another type and lots to admire, loved his head, would
like a bit more neck and carrying a little less weight, not the feet of those
above. Has a very good topline, enough hind angulation, sound honest dog.
GCD (1) 1 Cavalleria Rusticana. VB(5) 1 Turner's Ch Marictur Uptown
Madam JW. Feminine bitch of correct size, super head, dark almond eyes, lengthy
neck, feet ok, well laid shoulder, well ribbed, correct rear, just a fraction
long, sound on the move, length of stride took the class. 2 Mitchell's Dubreys
Dora The Explora. Super size and very well balanced in outline, feminine head,
just lacks a bit of strength to muzzle, good neck, a tad long in loin, holds
firm topline, true out and back. 3 Hinwood's Longmel Double Truffle. Perfect
size, balanced angulation, just a bit slack in top and underlines, feminine
head, feet better than many. Sp
PB(2, 1) 1 Hunt's Carpaccio Cognac Diamond. Spot on for size
and proportions, 11 mths and has a bit of developing to do, as to be expected,
feminine head, correct length of neck, well laid shoulder, feet can tighten,
correct topline, a bit long in loin, well sprung ribs, well bent stifle,
correct length of second thigh, nice length of stride. BP and RCC. Sp
JB(4) 1 Hunt's Carpaccio Black Pearl. Correct size and like her
proportions, very good head, long neck, pleasing front and right amount of forechest,
well sprung ribs, a bit too long and croup is at wrong angle. Quite good feet.
2 Macdonald's Bensarka Cheeky Vimto. Lovely head, just a bit overdone in
forechest which spoils her balance, correct ground clearance, very good rear,
just not the balance of first. 3 Furber's Dorysa Dolly Varden. Very good size
bitch, feminine head, just a bit throaty, good neck and front, correct
underline, slightly too much arch to loin.
PGB(12, 2) 1 Meeuwesen's Tita-Tovenaar Van De Wouwer (ATC AP01767NLD).
Correct for type and proportions, has leg without being leggy. Fairly good
feet, lengthy and feminine head, dark, almond eyes, long neck, correct rib and
topline, feet fair, ok rear, neck flows well. CC and BOB. 2 Rawson's Rosenket
Queen Of Hearts. Very good bitch with super feet, could just carry a bit less
weight, long head, eye colour suits her choc coat, super neck, well laid
shoulders, well sprung ribs, could just use her rear a bit more. 3 McNaughton's
Cedavoch Eindackel Lucretia Black. Correct size bitch who is in such hard
muscle, don't care for head, enough neck, well made front and rear, quite good
in topline, feet not as good as those above.
LB(10, 1) 1 Neeuwesen's Tita-Tovenaar Van De Wouwer (ATC APO1767NLD).
On feet, topline and hind action. 2 Tite's Rijobeau Done N Dusted. Feminine
bitch who is a super shape and pretty good feet, feminine head of length, long
neck, long upper arm, tight elbows, correct ground clearance, a tad long in
loin, well made rear but goes with hocks under her rather than driving. 3
Norton's Matzell Maid In Time. Is a very good b, like her size and length of
leg, super head, very good top and underlines, fair front and nice feet, good
rear, temperament on the day pegged her back.
OB(12, 2) Movement disappointing. 1 Meeuwesen's Tita-Tovenaar Van De
Wouwer (ATC APO1767NLD). 2 Higgins' Leveliss What She Said. Earnt place on
being so true out and back, which is where so many failed here, would like a
bit less weight on her, super head, good neck, well made, bit too long in loin
and not the stride of winner. 3 Macdonald's Ch/Am Ch hampdach Classic Gold At
Bensarka. Elegant bitch with lovely head, just a bit too long in back, neat
feet, super neck, shoulder well laid, short in upper arm and looses shape on
the move, nice rear.
GCB(1) 1 Kerry's Ralines Pretty Woman At Kireton. Choc b of very good
size, feminine head, good neck, feet could be better, just a bit long in loin
and would prefer a better rear.
