Many thanks for accepting me as your replacement judge. I’m sure we all wish Roz Rawson a speedy recovery, I’m sure that she was bitterly disappointed in not being able to full fill this appointment. When I was approached to come forward to this appointment I did point out that its less than two years since I last I judged this variety. The committee however where happy that I could step in & announced this just before the entries closed, offering refunds to those who had already entered. The final entry of 49 received was on par for this year & I certainly appreciated this. Without doubt dogs are judged on the day & not on past performances or merits, my notes which I take on the day on each individual dog give me a clear indication on how each dog performed at that moment in time & reflects my decisions
From the Smooth’s I had entered the quality of the bitches was far greater than the dogs in many ways. Puppies where rather thin in numbers too, just like in some other varieties. Two males really stood out for me & both had done well under me previously, having awarded them the RDCC & BP. Several girls appealed greatly, many are young & will have a great 2018 I’m sure. The majority in this entry where fit, well muscled & in great coat & condition. Looking through my notes I found just one questionable mouth & one tail with a slight kink. In fact jaws in the main where strong & teeth immaculate. Shoulder angulation was far better than hind angulation, although many did lack length of second thigh, most where firm & balanced. Size is great & the majority had the right amount of ground clearance for me. A variety I enjoy judging immensely. Thanks again for the opportunity
MPD (3), 1 & BP, Chauhan’s Wanderhund Viva Las Vegas, Son of my DCC & the same beautiful type, just 6 months & so well balanced & developed for his age. Good head & expression, plenty of neck, good shoulders, plenty of fore chest & width, very good length of ribbing, good top & underlines, enough angulation behind & he uses what he has. Still a little untidy up & down but gives a pleasing picture in profile carrying himself so well. Has plenty of time. Delightful temperament & in great condition. 2, Andison & Peel’s Wanderhund Texas Mickey, litter brother to one & very close up, good head & dark eye, possibly better in shoulder than 1 though I preferred the overall outline of his brother on the day in profile, very good body & ribbing, good quarters with neat firm hocks. As his brother he is still full of puppy sloppiness coming & going, although everything is right just not as composed as 1 on the day, will have fun next year I’m sure. 3, Jones’ Adnerbs Oh so Beau Onsio
PD (1), 1, Andison & Peel’s Clentry Pepe Le Pew, Very impressive 6 month Brindle. Well grown & developed for his age with the most delightful outgoing personality!. Good masculine head & dark points, well arched neck, good shoulders, very good legs & feet, firm top line with good well developed ribbing for age, enough angulation behind with firm parallel hocks, tail correctly set, already very sound coming & going & keeps a great outline in profile. For my personal preference he does have a might too much ground clearance, however his attitude, colour & overall picture will appeal greatly too many, as it did for me
JD (3), 1, Paterson’s Phealand Second Delivery To Ambiesque, very sound 13 month red in fabulous condition, good strong houndy head & expression, good strong jaws, well arched neck that he uses well on the move, good shoulders & tight elbows, plenty of fore chest that fits neatly, good deep ribbing with firm short loins, excels in hind quarters with correct length of second thigh, strong neat hocks, ultra sound coming & going, in profile gives an easy action with good reach & follow through, quality youngster that will go onto better things with luck. 2, Gatheral’s Phealand Secret Delivery, litter brother to 1, longer cast throughout but balanced, good head & oval eye, plenty of neck, prominent breastbone, not the feet of 1, good deep developed ribbing, shade longer in loins, neatly well angulated quarters, sound enough up & down & carries himself well in profile with a lovely head carriage. 3, Higgins’ Meganhol Black Musketeer Of Loveliss
YD (2), 1, McNaughton’s Cedavoch Tropical Storm, 12 month red just out of puppy, well made throughout, your hands flow going over him on the table, loved his head & expression, correct length from muzzle to skull, long well arched neck, good shoulders, ribbing is long & deep carrying a firm top line, short thick loins lead into correct well muscled quarters. His happy outgoing personality with his eagerness to please can sometimes detract from his soundness & overall outline at times, but at this age is a joy to see. With time I’m sure this pleasing young man will go onto great things. 2, Goffin-Thorogood’s Matzell Malizani, 20 month red, another beautiful type, his neck carriage & overall outline in profile is certainly appealing. So fit & well muscled, he is in lovely condition. Good head & dark points, long well arched neck, good strong top line with well sprung ribbing. He certainly excels in quarters with precise parallel action on the move. Pleasing boy
LD, (5,1 abs), 1 & RCC, Kerry’s Kireton Beau Diddley, loved this boy as a baby, indeed he was BP under me last time. Now at 2yrs old, this B/T certainly ticks all the boxes to carry his title & I’m sure he will have a great 2018. So well made, well muscled & free from exaggeration. Very good head & masculine expression, good strong underjaw, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, for me his leg, bone & feet where one of the best in this entry, free from wrinkle & so well bunched. Enough fore chest with plenty of width throughout, good solid body & ribbing. Firm top line & correct underline, short thick loins, his quarters are well made with enough angulation & his tail is well set & carried at all times. Ultra sound coming & going, clearly displaying a delightful temperament & attitude in profile, displaying a most appealing overall picture. Good luck with him, I’m sure he will make the upper house. 2, Payton’s Minalsa Mulberry Of Marajo, 3 yr red, longer cast & slightly more exaggerated all through. It is his profile action that certainly draws your eye, his elegant neck carriage appeals greatly. Without doubt he excels in front construction, Plenty of fore chest & width with his keel extending well back. Good firm backline & super ribbing. His front movement is certainly precise although not as sound as 1 going away. In profile his action is free & easy clearly displaying good reach in front & follow through from behind. Fabulous condition throughout. 3, Skipper’s Lauralee Artful Dodger
OD (6,1), 1 & CC, Chauhan & Cerasini’s Gr Ch Brownwoods Best Gift V Diagram, 3 yr B/t, a good honest hound, well made throughout, so sound & gives a very satisfying overall picture. Certainly not a big chap but totally in proportion & personality plus that adds to his easy free action that never falters. Very good head & dark almond shaped eyes, good strong jaws with plenty width. Elegant well arched neck leads into very good shoulders, Tight elbows on very good legs & neat feet. Plenty of fore chest, strong level top line, very good ribbing, short thick loins lead into fabulous hind quarters, small, neat, well angulated & so well muscled. Today he was ultra sound coming & going & his action in profile was a delight to see. Certainly in his prime now & with a change of handler in the challenge he certainly stepped up a gear pulling out all the stops to put on a polished performance. Certainly a breed specialist dog, he is not all glamour & flair but certainly a correctly made honest Dachshund. Had the RCC from me last time & today he won his 2nd CC, if there is any justice he will carry his UK title. 2, Seago & Gibbard’s Amlida Spirit, when you first see this boy he gives you the impression of being ‘old fashioned’ in type, he certainly reminded me of The Smooth’s we used to see in years gone by & for this alone he appealed greatly to me. This ultra sound ,well made 3 yr Choc impressed throughout, very good head & expression, long elegant neck carriage, good shoulders, not the feet of 1, enough fore chest & width, very good body & ribbing, correct top & underlines, well made quarters with correct length of second thigh, Neat firm parallel hocks. Ultra sound out & back & covers the ground well in profile. He too is not a big glamourous chap, but a well-made honest Dachshund that must surely be useful to the breed, he certainly pushed the winners all the way & must always be in the money. Spotless coat & condition. 3, Tite’s Ch Phealand Special Driver At Rijobeau

MPB, (2), 1, Wand’s Wanderhund California Girl, litter sister to BP & same lovely type with such a happy outgoing personality, 6 month B/T, lovely feminine head & expression, enough neck, well filled & developed front for age, plenty of width throughout, good firm top line, short loins leading into well made quarters that are free from exaggeration with enough angulation. Sound enough coming & going for such a baby & looks full of promise in profile where her side gait is already there to see. Very promising baby. 2, Stark’s Adnerb’s Viva La Diva At Gobannium, 6 month red, slightly taller & more exaggerated throughout & as yet not the outgoing confidence of 1. Appealing head & dark points, plenty of neck, good shoulders, good bone, prominent breast bone that still needs to finish in development to drop into the crook. Very good ribbing & body, cast iron backline, tail correctly set & carried. Sound enough coming & going & projects herself well in profile. Has plenty of promise & plenty of time

JB, (5,1), 1 & RCC, Mitchell’s Cedavoch Solar Storm At Bronia, absolutely beautiful in every way, this s/red girl is just out of puppy & is so correctly constructed throughout. Beautiful head & expression, darkest of almond shaped eyes, plenty of neck that she uses so well on the move, first class shoulders & angulation, tight elbows on feet to die for!. Plenty of front with keel that extends well back. Correct Top & underlines with good deep ribbing, short thick loins lead into correctly angulated & well made quarters, tail correctly set & carried at all times. So sound out & back but it’s her profile action that appeals greatly, great reach & extension. Presented & handled in tip top condition, really thought it she could go all the way, in the end with a very close battle with her equally beautiful litter sister she had to settle for the RCC. A close call on personal preference & I’m sure both will have many more battles to come in the new showing season. Good luck!. 2, Lockett-Walters & McDermot’s Ralines For Pete’s Sake, 15 month B/t, so feminine & well made throughout, by my DCC winner & same beautiful type, love her head & expression, good neck leading into well placed shoulders, plenty of front & depth, all fitting so well, shorter coupled throughout than 1, well developed in body with very good ribbing, thick, short, well muscled loins, enough quarters that she uses so well on the move. Ultra sound coming & going & carries herself well in profile. On the day she just wasn’t opening her gait in the same style as 1 which I’m sure she can do. Without doubt will go onto brighter things. 3, Gatheral-Graham’s Phealand Secret Dream
YB, (4), 1, McNaughton’s Cedavoch Tempest, litter sister to The CC & RCC winners. Another beauty, same wonderful type & construction, probably the longer in body of the three but totally in proportion, her height to length ratios are correct & make her balanced throughout. Good head & dark eye, plenty of neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows holding plenty of fore chest & width, like her sisters she has fabulous feet, good firm backline with ribbing that extends well back, plenty of angulation behind, ultra sound coming & going & keeps a lovely elegant outline in profile. Another beauty that will make the higher grade without any doubt. 2, Norton’s Matzell Myrtle, another well made ultra sound red girl, really beautiful head & expression, good dark points give that feminine outlook, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, not the legs & feet of 1, prominent breast bone with keel that extends well back. Solid top line on good deep ribbing, enough angulation behind. Ultra sound coming & going & keeps a great outline in profile. In great coat & hard condition. 3, Wand’s Wanderhund Phoenix Sky
PG, (2), 1, CC, BOB & BIS, McNaughton’s Cedavoch Rainstorm, fills your eye from any angle & her happy outgoing personality certainly makes you take a second look. The final exhibit of four from the same litter that have won today & how lucky & proud to have bred such quality Dachshunds. Like her litter mates this S/red is just out of puppy & is beautiful in type & faultless in construction. Ultra feminine head & expression with deep dark almond shaped eyes, well arched neck that she uses so well on the move, very good shoulders & angles, tight elbows on fabulous legs & feet. Fore chest is well developed & everything fits neatly & correctly. Correct top & underlines with ribbing that extends well back, short thick loins with tail correctly set & carried at all times. Lovely quarters with correct angulation on small, neat & firm parallel hocks. Ultra sound up & down & in profile he correct reach in front & follow through from behind is an object lesson on how a Dachshund should move. Her size & type appeals greatly, for me she has the right amount of ground clearance & is free from exaggeration. Finished the day by taking Best In Show in great company under Tony Johnson (Africandawns) which thrilled me immensely. Without any doubt I predict a top flight winner for 2018. Good Luck!. 2, Jones’ Hampdach In These Arms Of Adnerb, elegant, upstanding 3 yr red, nice type & gives a pleasing overall picture. Good head & dark points, long elegant neck that she uses so well on the move, good shoulders with tight fitting elbows, excels in body & ribbing, good firm top line, well made quarters on strong firm hocks, sound enough coming & going though not as precise today as 1. Appealing in profile, covering the ground in great style. In good coat & hard condition
LB, (6), 1, Armstrong’s Lauralee To The Manor Born, really loved this very well made 16 month S/red who I see is sired by my BOB winner from the last time I judged this variety, The great Ch Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby. Her condition throughout & muscles are a credit to her owner, so fit & hard. Lovely head & expression, good strong jaws, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders. Prominent breastbone that all fits so well with keel that extends well back, solid top line & correct underline, ribbing is deep & oval. Short thick loins lead into well made quarters with good firm parallel hocks. Ultra sound coming & going & carries herself well in profile keeping a very attractive outline. Certainly ran the eventual winners close in the challenge. 2, Jones’ Adnerb’s Let’s Get Fizzical JW ShCM, this 2 yr red ran the winner very close, so feminine & appealing throughout. Beautiful head & expression, well arched neck that she uses so well to project herself on the move. Good shoulders, tight elbows on good legs & feet. Plenty of fore chest though not quite the width throughout of 1, good firm backline on well sprung ribbing. Short in loin leading into good quarters with enough angulation. I did prefer her tail set & carriage on the day to 1. Absolutely sound coming & going, looks the part in profile too covering some ground. Neat, feminine & a quality girl. 3, Kerry’s Kireton Daisy Belle
OB, (6), A couple of bitches here that I’ve judged before, you can only judge them as you see them on the day, especially in tough competition the decision has to be on time in motion. 1, Williams & Moes’ Ch Cwmdarhian Hot Off The Press, one that I have admired from the ringside, infact the last time I judged this variety I awarded her Mother her second CC & she went onto win many more. Good head & expression although not the refinedness in skull as the two youngsters, well arched neck that she uses well, good shoulders & tight fitting elbows, good fore chest, broad & deep, very good body & ribbing with cast iron top line, short thick loins, very well angulated behind, strong short parallel hocks. Sound enough coming & going & covers the ground well in profile with attitude & style. In great coat & condition & so well handled. 2, Bennett’s Ch Shardaroba Dream Baby, 3 yr red that appeals greatly for a variety of reasons. Love her size, type & balance. Lovely head & expression, long well arched neck , good shoulders & tight elbows on good legs & feet. Breast bone is prominent & has width throughout. Very good body & ribbing on a firm top line. Well angulated quarters with plenty of length to second thigh. Tail is well set & correctly carried. Ultra sound in front movement but not so precise today going away. Presents a lovely elegant picture in profile, carrying herself so well. Hard as nails & gleaming in coat. 3, Armstrong’s Lauralee Girl Crush
VB, (2), 1 & BV, Norton’s Ch Matzell Mildred. Old favourite of mine, now rising 9 yrs, this lovely red girl still appeals greatly, no exaggeration & a real treat & object lesson to go over. Still love her head & expression, well arched neck that leads into copy book shoulders, her angles are absolutely precise. The width & depth of front is correct, not being overdone with a keel that extends well back. Compact body with deep oval ribbing & still holds a solid top line. Her quarters too are so well made & still show no sign of weakness in the hocks. Ultra sound coming & going & held a faultless outline in profile. If she had stepped up a gear she could have still given the youngsters a run for the main awards. Delightful. 2, Turner’s Marictur Moulin Rouge, another really lovely red girl carrying her 8 yrs well. Appealing head & dark almond eye, elegant neck carriage leading into well made front construction. Another with plenty of depth & width through her front without being overdone. Good body proportions & ribbing, firm backline with correctly set tail & carriage. Nicely angulated behind, being so well muscled too. Very sound coming & going & uses her neck so well on the move to project herself naturally. Fit, active & beautifully presented
