Thank you to the committee of the Midland Dachshund Club for the invitation to judge Standard Smooths without CCs at their perfectly organised & laid out Championship Show, in conjunction with the very well-run Hound Association Championship Show. I was delighted with the quality of the entry & particularly pleased to see my BOB go BIS and my BVIB go BVIS.

1st: STARKEY Ch Carpaccio Jasper From Hamoura Sh.CM VW,
not surprised to see this almost 8 year old b/t male carries his crown. Doesn’t
show his age at all but for a slight greying of the muzzle. A really delightful
chap of good make and shape, correct head & eye with a very keen expression,
enough keel & forehand, good ribbing and topline & well-muscled throughout.
Stands on good legs & firm feet; he is an accurate mover away & back and carries
himself very well in profile. BVIB & delighted to hear he went BVIS. Well done.
Limit Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: TITE Phaeland Secret Delivery To Rijobeau NAF TAF, a very smart 2.5 year
old red dog of super shape & type; lovely head and dark almond eye, well set
ears & all coming together to lend themselves to a very nice expression. Well
laid shoulders and well set elbows & full in thorax with just enough ground
clearance, well ribbed back & short loin and well-muscled throughout. A sound
mover away and back with an excellent carriage in profile. I wasn’t surprised at
all to see he was a Phaeland and I feel sure his late breeder would be proud of
him. Had he been a little more settled in the noisy hall he may have gone
further, but I have no doubt he will acquit himself well over the coming months.
Liked him a lot.
2nd: SEAGO & GIBBARD Amlida Aston, also a very nice chap & close up to 1st,
4.5 years & thought he carried more condition than Special Delivery today,
shares many of the same attributes and is a quality dog in all respects, good to
go over & very well knit, presented in excellent muscular condition, I just felt
today he didn’t move with quite the fluidity of Special Delivery.
Open Dog (8 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: PAGET & CARROLL Lauralee Oscar Wild At Marvale, headed a good class & I
liked this b/t dog a lot. Just over 2 years old & so secure in body & muscle so
as to hold his own against the very best. Excellent head and eye, expression so
keen & ears set well; lovely front & chest, plenty of heart-room, super elbows
all leading into good legs and feet. Shoulders well laid, level topline and
well-ribbed back & short in loin. Presented in perfect order and super muscular
condition. I considered him very strongly for Best Dog & thought he matched the
Ch dog winner very well in the final run off, the Ch having the edge on the day
in maturity, which was not surprising when I learned they were father & son. A
lovely dog & expertly handled.
2nd: HUNT Ch Lauralee Huckleberry Finn At Carpaccio JW, red dog & litter brother
to 1st, not unfamiliar to me as I awarded him Best Dog at Paignton
last year before he carried his crown. My opinion of him has not changed & he is
a Champion in every respect, great to go over & such a sound, accurate mover. I
felt today his brother had the edge in profile movement but I like him very much
& like 1st, he was presented in fabulous order & handled to
perfection.
3rd: CHAUHAN Wanderhund Viva Las Vegas, completed a trio of lovely dogs.

1st: ARMSTRONG Ch Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby, a striking & mature stallion hound
of great make and shape. He is imposing & with a presence, eyes full of
expression & a good masculine head; excellent neck and shoulder, good keel &
plenty of chest and heart room, enough ground clearance, firm topline & good
underline, excellent ribbing and loin, a treat to go over & packed full of
muscle; stands on good legs and feet & moves with style from all directions.
Considered strongly with the Open Dog for BD & I was delighted to learn they
were father & son; not only a good showman but a great producer too. Delighted
to award him BD.

1st: STARK Adnerbs Won Vision Of Gobannium, red bitch of 8 months & such a
sweetie! I see she is sister to the winner of PB and they share many of the
same attributes, I felt today she carried a little more weight than her sister &
wasn’t so advanced and to that end was slightly outmoved in profile. She was
presented in superb coat & condition and is a most exciting prospect.
Puppy Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: CHAUHAN Adnerbs Take A Chance On Me, what a sassy 8 month old! Her tail
never stopped & she was skilfully handled to make the very best of her, looks so
good on the table and she is equally as good to go over, well-knit and good to
go over; head coming on nicely & good front; enough neck & keel, stands on good
legs and feet, firm topline and good underline, a little chubby but nice to see
in a babe, never stops wagging and looks so good going around the ring enjoying
herself & taking it all in, full of promise & delighted to award her BPIB.
2nd: HIGGINS Leveliss Rock Lobster, another sweet youngster, though not quite as
forward as 1st, preferred the head of 1st & felt she was
slightly more forward on the day, well balanced throughout & built on good
lines; can mature on to advantage, but a very promising youngster and shown to
get the best out of her at all times. Put down in A1 order & in great muscle for
age.
3rd: BORRELLI Philabar The
Original
Junior Bitch (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: HUNT Carpaccio Faberge, smart b/t bitch of nice shape and type; presents a
good picture standing & moving, good head and eye, intelligent expression &
excellent pigmentation and mouth; she is very good to go over and well balanced
throughout. Moved soundly away and back and very pleasing in profile. I thought
maybe today she was carrying a little too much weight to go further.
2nd: WAND Wanderhund All Wrapped Up, very similar to Faberge in many respects &
she too is good to go over, well-knit & mature for her age. Enough neck &
forehand, firm topline & decent ribbing. She didn’t quite ‘open up’ on the move
today as much as Faberge, but another lovely one, prepared & presented to
perfection.
Post Graduate Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: CHAPMAN-REITH Wanderhund Lets Celebrate For Hayvenhund, not the instant eye
catcher in this class as I did think Secret Dream would pip her to the post on
first glance, however this bitch has to be gone over to be appreciated;
understated & so correct in all departments, her particular forte being on the
move, where she goes with good reach & drive and really opens up with fluidity
in profile to give a very pleasing picture, complemented by a good head carriage
which all adds to the picture. A very nice bitch.
2nd: PATERSON & PATERSON Phaeland Secret Dream, liked this red bitch very much
& thought she would be the winner; loved her to go over with a beautiful
feminine head & gorgeous eyes. She is maybe a touch forward in shoulder & could
tighten up in underline to advantage, but she is very stylish & I understand
with a new owner since her breeder’s untimely death. I am sure once she gains in
confidence & further learns the ropes she will have a career befitting her
qualities. Presented in A1 order.
3rd: STRINGFELLOW Oxondachs Amethyst At Silvatica
Limit Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: MCNAUGHTON Cedavoch Windstorm, what a treat for a breeder to have
Windstorm, Solar Storm & Rainstorm all in one litter – beauties! This bitch was
the first of the ‘storm ladies’ I met today, and she too is a real class act. I
loved her head and eye, a beautiful size all through & such a well-made hound in
excellent muscular condition. Fit and functional and it showed as she moved
around the ring, driving from the rear & returning true in front; and carried
herself so well in profile. She was close up and I loved her too.
2nd: WAND Wanderhund Phoenix Sky, very classy bitch, good to go over & feminine
in head, enough neck and reasonable shoulder, firm front & good elbows, good
topline & underline leading to well-muscled quarters & width. Moved with enough
drive away and returned true in front, on the day preferred Windstorm for
profile movement & accuracy. Put down in first class order & skilfully handled.
Open Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: MITCHELL Ch Cedavoch Solar Storm At Bronia, a lovely red bitch with style &
one I have judged before. My opinion of her has not changed & she is a real
beauty, 3.5 years and fully mature; excellent head and eye, dark pigmentation &
well set ears, alert & intelligent expression, fabulous neck & shoulders, lovely
to go over and so well-knit, firm ribbing and excellent topline, neat underline
& with good ground clearance, goes so well from all angles & a treat to watch in
profile. A classy bitch of beautiful balance and size, I was delighted to award
her BB & BOB and even more thrilled to hear later on in the day she had won BIS.
Well done!

1st: MCNAUGHTON Ch Cedavoch Rainstorm, litter sister to Solar Storm & so little
to separate them, it is not surprising both carry their crowns. The third of the
litter to win today as Windstorm also won limit & they are like peas in a pod! A
beautiful red bitch with great quality and substance, fabulous head with a
feminine expression whilst retaining strength; excellent shoulder & return of
upper arm, plenty of heart room; well ribbed back & correct in loin, nice hammy
hindquarters & used herself so well on the move. So little to separate her and
her sisters, RBB.
