I was very honoured and pleased to be
invited to judge this distinguished Dachshund variety at Crufts. I
was pleased with the quality of my overall entry but disappointed
with some nervous temperaments especially in dogs that have
previously received top honours. I am aware of a social media
comment regarding top lines and ‘crippled’ hindquarters; I must
respond and record that there were no problems with the top lines of
my winners, and certainly there were no ‘crippled’ hind quarters in
construction or action on the move. A sound temperament should be of
greater importance to those concerned!

rear. Moved well in front with extension but not as strong in rear
action as 1st. 3 Payton’s Hampdach The Trooper, another well-made

on a strong graceful neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Pleasing
bone and muscular body of ideal length, spring, depth and

challenge. Undeniably a super representative of the Breed. Dog CC
and Best of Breed. 2 Williams and Moe’s Ch Cwmdarhian Rocket Man, a
striking 2½ year old Red male of obvious quality when standing.
Handsome, masculine head set on strong, stylishly shaped neck
flowing into well laid shoulders. Good length body with obvious
fore-chest and looks to have a body with spring and depth and nicely
angled hindquarters. Lacked confidence on the table and was
difficult to go over and tended to be wary of his surroundings on
the move, all of which cost him further consideration for top
honours but rewarded his obvious quality with his placing in this
class. 3 Reynolds’ Cwmdarhian San Domenico at Glenariff, a 2 year
old of similar profile shape to 2nd. and making up a trio of
excellent males. Particularly handsome head set on a good length,
strong, elegant neck. Well made front and forequarters, pleasing
body having spring and depth and a firm topline. Stable good with
hindquarters with parallel hocks. Moved out with true action front
and rear. Res Macdonald’s Bensarka Limerick Good Citizen Dog Scheme

and moves particularly well. Well-constructed in front and

width hindquarters with parallel hocks. A confident youngster both
standing and moving. 2 Hunt’s Lauralee Joan of Arc at Carpaccio, a
super typy 9-month-old Red who has an impressive appearance when
settled. Tended to be sensitive to her surroundings resulting in her
losing shape and being unsettled. Nevertheless, her quality in
conformation and movement could be appreciated. She has a
particularly attractive head, she is well made in front, body and
hindquarters. She is true in front and of ideal proportions length
to height at the withers and is nicely angled behind but needs to
strengthen. Purposeful and free action on the move. 3 Mcnaughton’s
