Darlington Championship Show 2024
BEST OF BREED : WILLIAMS & MOES Ch Cwmdarhian Super Mario
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Dachshunds here today. It is one of my most favourite shows to judge at.
Thanks so much to my amazing stewards who kept the ring running smoothly all day and kept everything fun and upbeat.
Cannot thank all the exhibitors enough for trusting me with your hounds.
I found many super smooths today, temperaments seem steadier, toplines seemed better, not as many ski-slope stacking, many flat feet too and sadly rear movement hasn’t improved much. If they weren’t close and almost touching, they were over muscled and couldn’t drive. My main winners I was delighted with!

1st: HEELS, Miss Kerry Daxanory Menacing Awesome - RCC & BP
Smart hound, masculine yet elegant.
Houndy head, parallel planes, good eye shape and colour, ears well placed and
used. Mouth correct. Nicely filled under eye. Throat clean, super oval thorax,
correct from front and side, elbows tight and neatly set. Neck super length,
layback of shoulder spot on with correct angulation with nice length or upper
arm. Keel length pleasing. Ribs carried well back, loin strong and deep. Rear
angulation perfectly matching front, strong second thigh. Good feet. Topline and
underline spot on, tail set was super. He was wonderful to watch on the move,
powering around the ring showing the correct reach and drive, no paddling here!

Handsome red, super head, matching planes, eye shape and colour pleasing, ears well set. Neck elegant, shoulders well-constructed, good length of keel, ribs carried well back, loin strong. Rear pleasing with good width of second thigh. Nice topline and underline. Nice in profile showing real reach and drive. Good coming and going.

Brindle with the most gorgeous head,
good eye shape, ears well placed, correct pigment. Neck elegant. Correct layback
of shoulder but a little steep in upper arm. Oval thorax. Ribs carried well
back. Topline and underline correct. Pleasing angulation behind. Prefer a
little more weight on him but he is very fit. Nice in profile and coming. Nicely
handled.

1st: MCNAUGHTON, Ms Lesley Cedavoch Calenhad
Black and tan boy with a super head, correct mouth, eye shape, eye colour, ear placement and pigment. Neck elegant, shoulders well set and angulated, balanced to rear which was muscular and strong showing good width going away. Ribs deep and carried well back to a strong deep loin. Keel long. Topline and underline good on the move. Lovely balanced hound in super condition. Moved well in all directions.

1st: JONES, Mrs & Miss Brenda & Candice Cwmdarhian San Antonio At Adnerb
Beautiful breed type. Balanced red boy, classic head, super eye shape, colour and expression, uses his ears well. Neck elegant, shoulders are textbook, matching rear with good width of second thigh. Feet good. Topline and underline good. Super in profile on the move. Nicely conditioned.
2nd: JENNINGS, Mrs J Marvales's Manifesto At Jenivon
Black and tan, slightly stronger in head but not overdone, oval eyes, good colour and pigment, ears well placed. Another super front and strong rear. Pleasing topline and underline when stacked and on the move. Pleasing coming and going, if he had a little more presence on the move in profile and a slightly longer keel, he would have won the class.
3rd: HINWOOD, Mrs Melanie Anerbs Sheer Nanagins
Open Dog (7 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: WILLIAMS, Mrs R & MOES, Mr C J Ch Cwmdarhian Super Mario - CC & BOB
This is really what I would want in a
male. Head was super, correct planes, eye shape was lovely and colour was dark,
ears well placed and used. The set on from the back of his skull to his neck is
elegant and clean through throat. Oval thorax, good prosternum, keel of good
length, ribs carried well back to a strong, deep loin. Shoulders were perfectly
placed and angulated, rear was in balance with width across pelvis, good strong
second thigh and not too long or overdone in length of second thigh, nice low
hocks and good strong feet. Topline and underline pleasing, tail set correctly.
Couldn’t fault him on the move in any direction. Full of presence. All male but
elegant.
2nd:BINKS, Miss Anne E Cedavoch Ocean Storm
Handsome red, classic conical head,
good eye shape and colour, mouth correct, ears well placed. Neck of good length,
shoulders well placed and balanced to rear. Nice oval thorax, prominent
prosternum. Ribs deep and carried well back. Topline and underline correct and
strong, well held on the move. Ribs deep and carried well back, strong deep
loin. Nicely balanced male, good coming and going but prefer more presence and
enthusiasm in profile.

Puppy Bitch (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st:HEELS, Miss Kerry Daxanory Ravishing Rose
Smart little red, I believe she is the
litter sister to my RDCC. Pleasing head, good eye shape and colour, ears well
placed. Neck nice, shoulders to fall back into place as she matures. Good legs
and feet. Topline a little level at times but she held it most of the time on
the move. Rear was nicely angulated. Tail set correct. Ribs deep and carried
well back. She has lovely breed type, just needs time to mature and blossom, but
exactly where she should be at this age. Movement was pleasing.
Junior Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: STARK, Mr Md & Mrs Ta Gobannium Made Of Honour JW
Red, classic head, lovely eye shape
and colour, pigment correct and ear placement correct. Good clean neck, layback
of shoulder was well back, nice return of upper arm, prominent prosternum, oval
thorax, plenty of bone, good feet. Rear was pleasing and balanced to front, good
second thigh, low hocks, tail set spot on. Topline and underline correct. Ribs
deep and carried well back. Won on rear movement going away as rest of class a
little close. Good in all directions and shown beautifully. Feminine and classy.
2nd: ANDISON, Miss Louise Clentry Forget Me Not
Another gorgeous head from this
kennel, feminine and elegant, super eye shape, colour and expression, uses her
ears well. A little too much in front for me, spoils her overall balance.
Shoulders well angulated, ribs deep and carried well back. A fraction too long
in second thigh for me. Topline and underline correct. Beautiful in profile and
coming towards. Sympathetically handled.

2nd: MACDONALD, Miss L K & Mrs J C & COXON, Mrs L Melisdax Mischief
In May
Two I suppose that are not at a great
stage of development. 1st was a little too rangey for me and 2nd
was a little too compact and close to ground. I preferred the head on 1st
which had plenty of underjaw, 2nd lacking underjaw. I would prefer
cleaner necks and shoulders well back on both, however they were both well
angulated, just to fall back into place. Both had well angulated rears with okay
second thighs. Feet were good, both in good condition and well muscled.
Preferred the profile movement on 1st and the front movement coming
on 2nd. Think both could do with time.

1st:STARK, Mr Md & Mrs Ta Adnerbs Won Vision Of Gobannium JW OSW
Very nice breed type, super rich red, gorgeous expression, nicely filled under eye and well set ears which she used well. Nicely constructed shoulders, oval thorax, prominent prosternum, keel long, ribs deep and carried well back. Loin strong, topline and underline spot on. Rear was strong, correctly muscled, well angulated and decent width of second thigh, hocks low and parallel. Won this class on overall movement and presence. Beautifully handled.
2nd: PATERSON, Mr Brian & PATERSON, Mr Peter Cwmdarhian The Mistress
Black and tan, gorgeous head and expression, nice eye shape and pigment. Ears well set and used showing that classic Dachshund look when viewed from front. Super shoulder placement and angulation, oval thorax, keel long, ribs deep and carried well back. Enough bone, good feet. Topline and underline correct, nice tail set. Good coming and in profile but prefer straighter rear movement going away and more drive. Super condition.

1st: ANDISON, Miss Louise Clentry Crunchy Carrot – CC
A feminine version of my dog CC
winner. Red, conical head, filled well under eye, pleasing planes, correct eye
shape, colour and pigment, used her well set ears for that classic look.
Couldn’t fault her shoulder, well laid back, correctly angled with a lovely
length of upper arm. Oval thorax, prominent prosternum, long keel, ribs deep and
carried well back to a strong, deep loin. Rear was in balance with front,
correctly muscled, super second thigh, nice low hocks which were parallel when
viewed from rear and also on the move. Topline and underline spot on. Moved with
presence and showing correct reach and drive in all directions. Handled
beautifully. Real classy bitch. I believe this was her crowning CC –
Congratulations.
2nd: WILLIAMS, Mrs R & MOES, Mr C J & STARK, Mrs T & ST Ch Gobannium Gladys Friday – RCC
