WIRE HAIRED
This was my first judging appointment for Dachshunds in this country though I have been judging them for the last 30 years under the FCI rules. I want to thank the association for inviting me and the Wire people for giving me such a good entry. The overall quality was very good and the dogs were generally sound with good movement. A Dachshund should be intelligent, lively and courageous with good temperament. Some of my exhibits did unfortunately not meet this description. Another problem were fronts. Quite a few was too upright in upper arm and was lacking the desired keel and prminent breast bone. I want to thank the exhibitors for the sporty way in which they recieved my decisions and the ringside for their support.
JD. (2). 1. Dible’s, Liebling Here Comes the Boss. This dog has enormous potential and the truth is that I tried to but him when I saw him for the first time at the West of England Dachshund Association this spring. He has come a long way since then and if this is not a future Champion, I have never seen one. He has enormous presence and moves arounf the ring like he owns the place. His head and coat are superb and I will follow his progress with great interest. I was pleased to hear he was third in the Pupp Group. BP.
PGD. (2). 1. Baxter’s, Lankelly Timothy Grass at Kharmina. Dog of excellent type. Good head and topline. Moves well.
LD. (3). 1. Clifford’s, Brockbane Papageno with Ablebody. Lovely dog of very good type. Good neck and front. Moves well. 2. Kent’s, Liebling Play in the Hay. Stylish dog full of charm. But would like him better angulated both ends. 3. Coverley’s, Romanchi Choctaw.
OD. (7). 1. Seath’s, Stonevale Stars and Stripes at Sunsong (Imp). This is a fabulous dog who standing gives the picture of an ideal Dachshund. He has a lovely head. Excellent coat and is superbly angulated both ends. His shoulder placement, upper arm and keel are close to perfection. Yes, he does disappoint a little on the move but I had no hesitation in giving him this strong class due to his many strong points. Overall type and excellent temperament. 2. Goddall’s, Gavteckels Seaexcpectation at Renlott. Another dog of high class. He has a super head and is immaculately presented and handled. He has a superb topline and is as sound as they come but I would like him better angulated in front and this is why I placed him second. 3. McCalmont and Hayward’s, Am Ch. Starbarrack Bone Appetit.
JB. (4). 1. Rees’s, Ermewood Arabella. This os a lovely bitch of high class. Very promising. She is well built all through and she has superb quarters which makes her move very well indeed. RBB. 2. Salisbury’s, Manatek Rising Star over Brocklewood. Very close to the winner. Superb outline but not in full coat on the day. 3. Coverley’s, Romanchi Tigua at Aventine.
PGB. (2). 1. Rowe’s, Boloria Nefertiti. Excellent type. Lovely outline. Unfortunately not in best coat. 2. Kent’s, Liebling Sweet Charity. Bitch of good type but a bit upright in shoulders. Moves quite well.
LB. (5). 1. Seath’s, Sunsong Secret Affair. For me this was the star of the day. She has got it all and she is a fabulous representative for her breed. The front assembly the quarters and the topline are to die for and she moves around the ring like a mannequin. It is no justice in the world if this bitch doesn’t get made up. BB and BOB. 2. Baxter’s, Lankelly Saffron at Kharmina. Also this one is of high class with excellent outline. Moved very well. 3. Salisbury’s, Bricklewood Diorella.
OB. (4). 1. Seath’s, Mowbray American Pie at Sunsoung. Another bitch by Stars and Stripes which has inherited his strong points. Once again I was impressed by the fabulous front and well angulated quarters but she was a bit heavier that I would prefer and she therefore lost out to my Junior bitch for the RBB award. 2. Barrett-Boyce’s, Brcoklewood Clementine. Typical sound bitch but I wish would show a bit better. 3. McCalmont’s, Silvae Poppers.
