I was once again greatly honoured to judge at this, the Top Dog Show. I had looked forward to the event with much enthusiasm, and I was not disappointed in the entries, and I warmly thank the exhibitors for their participation, and in the main, their kind acceptance of my findings. My three stewards worked hard and unobtrusively, making my job so much more pleasant. Thanks to them. My "general" comments are that the whole entry was fit, clean and all had temperaments to die for. One or two looked a bit overawed, but when tested, came through with flying colours. Many of the top dogs and bitches will change places in the future, I can only say that I judged them on the day, and found what I was looking for in several lovely dogs.

Vet D (6,1) 1 Williams Ch/IR Ch Lieblings Pick N Mix. A fine up-standing dog of 7 and three-quarter years. Masculine head on strong neck leading onto well placed shoulders. A level top line and correct underline Hind end was built to move, which he did with power and thrust. Correct jacket 2 Paterson’s Ch Cishelvine Foredancer. An eight year old. A little larger than the 1st but similar comments apply. Not quite the prosternum I like, but a fabulous expression on a macho head, good coat. 3. Roberts Perikles Knight of the Eagle. An eight year old darker brindle in good order. Excellent bone and correct hind angulation. Excellent feet. I just preferred the hind movement of 1 & 2. Three very nice dogs.

SpPD (9) 1 Moore’s Romanchi Carrier. A big upstanding dark brindle masculine dog aged 10 months. He has good bone and wonderful angulation. Good coat well presented, and when asked to more, he did with drive and soundness. He will be a factor for the future. Best Puppy in Breed. 2 .Evans Perikles Knight of the Eagle. 14 months. Another nice brindle. not quite the harshness in coat, and the top line is a little soft in comparison. Beautifully boned. Great head. 3 . Calcott’s Vineacre Batchelor Pad at Baffledown. This is the size I prefer, Losing his topline slightly, but that could strengthen in time, as he is only 13 months. Moved well.

SpJ (3) 1 Gibson’s Allfreys Seabiscuit. Red brindle dog. Nice head and expression on this chap. Good body and front assembly. His top line was ‘up at the back’ on the move, which he did well. 2 . Robinson’s Allfreys Slip Anchor. A bigger dark brindle dog. Not quite the fore chest of 1 but otherwise similar comments apply, hardly surprising as they are from the same litter. 3 .Mankins Birchman Black Beard. . A dog that is at one with his owner. On the day his top line let him down.

PGD (7) 1 Derry’s Soneve Pharoah ar Andlouis. The perfect size as far as I am concerned. Correct bone and angulation, presenting a balanced hound. To be a nit- picker, I should like a better fore chest. Coat well presented, and handled to perfection. 2 Baxter’s Lankelly Timothy Grass at Kharmina. Good head on this hound, and correct prosternum. Rather larger than 1st. 3 Glanville-Briggs & McCalmont’s Silvae Onyx. Another extremely nice dog, well boned and balanced. I thought he would benefit from a longer upper arm. Wonderful head expression, has a well-presented quality coat.

LD (9) 1 Moore’s Romanchi Beaver. 1st. It was a very mixed class of various types and sizes. I do prefer the smaller type, as I feel the breed is too big, but you cannot make size the governing factor when faced with a class of quality hounds. This dog is balanced and masculine, with great balance and substance. His angulation is superb, and he uses his quarters so well on the move showing off his good turn of stifle. Sound and impressive. Once again a well presented coat. A well-earned Res. CC. 2 . Dible’s Leibling Here Comes the Boss. A different type to 1st, but he also falls easily into the classier group. A most attractive well coated red, substantial hound. In hind movement he is a lesson to see, front movement was a bit slack today. Good size. 3 Burke & Manston’s Bonavoir Kelly’s Eye. Another red. Slightly bigger than 2. Great coat texture and presentation. Shoulder angulation is correct and top line level. Good mouth. Nice mover.

OD (8,2) 1 McCalmont & Heywood. Ch / Am Ch Starbarrack Bone Appetit. (imp) This dog was at first a little erratic in behaviour but when he had time to settle down, he showed his true colours. He is a big dark b/t brindle hound with tremendous ring presence that demands attention. His head is masculine, strong neck, Shoulders are well placed. Well sprung ribs, level top line, quarters exactly as they should be, but oh! when he moved I was so thrilled. He covered the ground with speed, drive and accuracy. He worked hard for and got the CC. Well done. I learn he returns to the States soon. I hope they treasure him. 2 , McCalmonts Ch Silvae Pickwick. Another great hound. So well known in this company. Lovely head, great balance and another one who has his fair share of charisma. Today he had to give way on the movement stakes. 3 .Clifford’s Winterstorm with Ablebody. A lovely well presented dog in good coat order. He is a good type with all the essentials and he also moved so well.

Good Cit. D. (1) Paterson’s Ch Cishelvine Firedancer.

Vet B (4) 1 Pughe & Fraser’s Ch Bystock Black Queen. An extremely balanced bitch of quality. Good type. She is eight and three quarters years old, and doesn’t look it. What a happy girl she is. Moved very well keeping her top line at all times. Body and angles are correct. 2 . Poulters Ch Lankelly Black Bryony. It’s hard to believe that this lovely bitch is in her ninth year. So much has been written about her. I think one word describes her and that is "quality" on the day she tended to lose her top line . 3 . Baxters Lankelly Saffron at Kharmina. Good body and fore chest. She is litter sister to the 2nd in this class, so they both are a credit to their owners. Movement a bit erratic.

SpPB (7,1) 1 . Clifford’s Ritterburg Rose Adagio with Ablebody. A quandary here, as the 1st and the 2nd were so different in size, but not in type. 1st. was the smaller of the two, but when it comes to quality they are very similar. Both are level, compact, good under and top lines, well placed forechests, and movement is correct. I went for the smaller one to win first place, and the 2 . went to Moore’s Romanchi Chicora, who is litter sister to Best Puppy in Breed. 3r . Skinner’s Ritterburg Schehrazade. Good type of bitch who is lovely on the stand. Feminine head and expression, well presented. Coat excellent. And as all Ritterburgs, construction is enviable.

SpJB (10,3) 1 Patton’s Lesandnic Like A Butterfly. A pretty bitch with a fabulous front assembly. Maturing into a hound to be reckoned with Moved better the second time of asking. I shall watch her progress with interest. 2 Davies Cempsey Centime by Atahira. Another nice fronted bitch. A bit loose coupled at this time, but I think she will tighten. Her top and underlines are correct and she holds it all together when on the move. Good coat , well presented. 3 . Clarke’s Bystock Some Like It Hot. Similar comments apply here as to the previous two dogs. All three will benefit with maturity and that of course takes time.

PGB (16,2) 1 Phillips Saxonbury Playtime at Tendrow. A well balanced feminine young bitch. Very typey and correctly constructed. Won in good company. Moved well and strongly. 2 Higgott’s Soneve Phoebe of Elation. Beautifully presented. Correct front and quarters. Top and underlines are fine. Topped off with a lovely feminine head and expression. Moved well. 3 Patton’s Lesandnic Fairy Footsteps. Lovely size here. Balanced bitch of quality. Moved really well in a very strong class.

LB (10) 1 Patton’s Lesandnic Seakia, A favourite of mine. A really well balanced quality bitch with no exaggerations. So sound and true in movement. I love her expression and type. 2 . Dible’s Ritlo the Gypsy’s Fortune at Liebling JW. My tape says ‘very similar in type’ She excels in fore chest, and moves with purpose. I feel they could change places many times. 3 Rees’s Ermewood Arabella. A larger bitch whose quality is also very evident. Not perhaps the prosternum of the 1st & 2nd, but nevertheless a hound to take note of. Lovely character

OB (8,2) 1 McCalmonts Ch Silvae Silvae Picnic. Someone said to me after the judging that he had wanted to buy this bitch years ago. Well I can understand why, but she stayed at home. She has charisma, ring presence, construction to write home about, and movement to die for. Her litter brother Pickwick won 2nd in open dog, but what a litter eh? A credit to the breed and to her owner, and to her breeder. CC and BOB. She even looked good on telly! 2 Gordon’s Cempsey Coquet. JW. A balanced extrovert bitch with a lovely nature. Structure is correct with no exaggerations. Movement is correct. Close up to 1st. Res CC. 3 Poulter and Macdonalds Ch Lankelly Kelsey Rose. Another lovely bitch in great order. Well constructed. Held her top-line on the move, which she did with power and drive. Completed a trio of super bitches. Thank you all for a fabulous day.
