WIREHAIRED
It was an honour to judge my own breed and I very much enjoyed the opportunity to get my hands on dogs that I have admired from the ringside. As a breed, we continue to suffer from upright shoulders, but I was also surprised at how may dogs have very short keels, instead of running well back to give a neat flowing underline. I also found a wide range of bites, from very close to scissor, through to slightly overshot. Many exhibits would benefit from more exercise, to give them more muscle and improve hind movement. So few seem to have the desired parallel hind movement when moving away. MPD (5,1a) 1 Rowe's Boloria Calico Jack 9 month Brindle with a really good coat, bone and substance. Lovely head and elegant neck. Moved true coming towards me. He is well-angulated behind, but moved slightly close when moving away; just needs to muscle up with exercise. Presents a good profile standing. Promising puppy. 2 Dible's Monisi on the Town Another 9 month brindle, of slightly taller type and not quite the length of 1. Excellent pin-wire coat. Elegant neck. Good front, with tight-fitting elbows. Tidy underline. Good topline. Moved very true behind, going away. 3 Harrris Ritlo Black Nyr'lyn. PD (4,1a) 1 Phillips Tendrow Special Format Brindle with very good topline. Strong head. Good forechest running back into a good keel and neat underline. Liked his overall substance and good depth of body throughout. Moved truer coming towards me and going away than 2. Looks better moving than stacked, as he presents a lovely profile when moving. 2 Dible's Monisi on the Town. 3 Edwards & Lavin's Nosinllor Fusillier. JD (3,1a) 1 Vine's Cishelvine Sea Swell Brindle dog who held a better topline, both standing and on the move than 2. Good bone and substance. Good forechest, well ribbed up and tidy underline. Would prefer stronger hindquarters. When he steps out, he looks good in profile. 2 Phillips & Endersby's Wiretrap's Court Jester (Imp) TAF Good coated red dog of correct size, but who is shorter in body than 1. He can look lovely when posed, but today, did not maintain that picture on the move. Very good forechest. Liked his head. PGD (4,2a) 1 Davis' Teckelgarth Tom Thumb Harsh-coated Brindle who looks better on the move than when stacked. Strong head, but would prefer a darker eye. Adequate forechest and better underline than 2. Holds a good topline when moving in profile. Reasonable hind angulation and he moved absolutely parallel going away from me. 2 Barrett's Abbeydac Sorrel at Lowjinks Very dark Brindle with an excellent coat. More upright in shoulder and not the length of 1. Would look better in profile if he was moved slightly faster. Better front and rear movement than 3, coming and going. 3 Williams Swincombe Shropshire Lad. LD (7,3a) 1 Phillips Tendrow Special Edition Elegant neck. Good forechest, keel and depth of body. Tight-fitting elbows. Held topline better on the move than 2 and had a neater underline. Moved true going away. Would prefer a harsher coat. 2 Pinkerton's Bystock Skye Walker at Menigma Handsome Brindle dog with strong head, elegant neck and good front construction. Slightly tucked up underline. He lost his topline on the move a bit today, which spoilt his profile movement, as he has good driving action. Beat 3 with his excellent hind movement. 3 Harris & Millgate's Ritlo Shooting Star. OD (6) 1 McCalmont, Heywood & Pedrosa Am Ch Treis Pinheiros Zucchini A very well balanced dog, with everything in the right place and of good size. Nice front construction - not over-exaggerated forechest. Good substance and depth of body. Really good topline. Would prefer slightly harsher coat. Well-angulated behind and he moved absolutely true going away from me (an exception today). Really looks a picture on the move. RCC. 2 Rollinson's Ch & Ir Ch Nosinllor Grenadier Sh.CM. Another Brindle I have admired from a youngster and who looks excellent moving in profile. Super head and elegant neck. Slightly longer type than 1. Well-angulated behind, but not quite as true coming towards me as 1. 3 North Row's Ir Ch Liebling Cross the Pond to Barmaud. VD/B (6,2a) 1 Harris Ch/SA Ch Silvae Blacksmith at Ritlo Striking pin-wire Brindle who is now ten, but looks as good as when he was shown in his youth. A proper Smooth dachshund profile, but with a Wire jacket. Not the best of heads, but I felt the overall picture, both stood and on the move meant he was a well-deserved winner who can more than hold his own with the younger dogs. Good length of ribbing with a very neat underline. Excellent forechest. Really well-angulated behind. Moved true both coming and going away, and stepped out with drive in profile. Dog CC and BOS. Best Veteran in Show. 2 Gordon's Ch Silvae Gemstone at Cempsey Very typey little 9 year old bitch who moved extremely well - certainly when compared with most of the younger bitches. Correct size, good forechest. Held her topline better on the move than 3. 3 Patton's Bardings Brocade. MPB (4) All these minor puppy bitches need to settle in the topline; most are very slack on the move, or run up behind. 1 Dible's Monisi Anything Goes 9 month Brindle of correct size, with a super harsh pin-wire coat. Elegant neck and good forechest. Tidy underline. Looked more balanced than 2. Moved well. 2 Rollinson's Nosinllor Joan of Arc Dark Brindle with really good coat. Liked her length. Not the forechest or front construction of 1. Looks better moving than stood, as she steps out well. 3 Borman's Sonic Water Lily. PB (13,3a) 1 and 2 from the MP class moved significantly better than the other puppies, many of whom ran up behind and had straight back ends. 1 Dible's Monisi Anything Goes. 2 Rollinson's Nosinllor Joan of Arc. 3 Phillips Tendrow Special Formula. JB (4) 1 McCalmont's Silvae Mystic Very attractive light Brindle, with excellent coat. Elegant neck, good forechest. Well-constructed in front, with good tight-fitting elbows. Level topline, held on the move. Another who looks better on the move, where she presents a lovely profile picture. Moved true coming towards me, but needs to tighten up a bit moving away. Very promising youngster. 2 Derry's Schutzenwald Penny Lane at Andlouis Slightly lighter build than 1. Another with an excellent coat. Good forechest and underline. Firm topline compared with many of the other younger bitches. Not quite the bone of 1, but preferred her hind angulation. 3 Smith's Schutzenwald Gold Of The Day At Salixian. PGB (6,1a) 1 Bates & Maes-Jones Derochaise Picardie Well-coated Brindle who presents a lovely overall shape. Good bone and substance. Well-balanced. Good amount of forechest, tight-fitting elbows and moved true coming towards me. Would prefer slightly more bend of stifle. Moved really well. 2 Vine's Cishelvine Ocean Dream. Heavier in front and more depth of chest than 1. Good length and neat flowing underline. Well-angulated behind. Coat could do with a bit of a tidy up. Preferred her movement to 3. 3 Skinner's Ritterburg Against all Odds. LB (8,2a) Difficult decisions in this class as there are some real quality bitches, all of whom deserve top awards, on their day. Easily the best quality class of bitches. 1 Phillips Tendrow 'O' Sooo Special JW. Moved best in this class, coming towards me and going away. Again, one who presents a much more balanced picture on the move than when stood. Good head carriage, on elegant neck. Tight-fitting elbows. Topline held on the move and a tidy underline. Could perhaps do with a bit more hind angulation, but she still moves well. 2 Rowe's Boloria Anastasia Very attractive Chocolate of correct size, that I have admired from the ringside and really wanted to get my hands on today. Lovely front construction. Good coat. Unfortunately, she seemed determined not to show herself off to best advantage and her movement was not as driving as I have seen before. Not quite the length of 1 and had more crook, moving towards me. 3 Pugh & Fraser's Bystock Pumkin Pie. OB (6,1a) 1 Harris Ritlo Be'Dazzler. Lovely red bitch with good length and overall balance. Going over her front, she is really well put together, with good shoulder placement, upper arm and tightly-fitting elbows. Nothing is over-exaggerated. Elegant neck running into lovely body shape. Preferred her movement going away, to 2. I believe she is a granddaughter of the DCC winner. CC and BOB. 2 McCalmont's Silvae American Beauty Another well-made bitch, with a super front construction. Not quite the length or hind angulation of 1. Moves extremely well in profile, driving from behind and keeping a good topline. Doesn't do herself justice when posed. Definitely one to admire on the move. Well-deserved RCC. 3 Kent's Lieblings Sweet Charity.
