WIRE HAIRED
It was a pleasure to judge the Wires as I haven't done so for many years in this country. My main concerns were short ribbing and dogs shown in soft condition which, of course, applies to all varieties. Although there are still some larger specimens generally size is more under control now and the majority of exhibits are definitely more elegant, have better bone, more prominent forechests and harsher coats than when I last judged. Thankfully, the really heavy exhibit with the slow rolling gait has gone. I wonder whether this is partly due to breeders importing from America? I was very pleased with my principal winners both in dogs and bitches and feel that this bodes for the future of this delightful variety of dachshund. JD (5) 1 Dible's Liebling Stormin Norman. Well put together, harsh coated red in hard condition sired by Granadier (3rd in Open). Lovely head and neck and good length of ribbing. Well angulated front and rear and moved keeping a firm topline, but body just a tad narrow all through so tended to move a little close. 2 Locksmith's Abbeydac Barley. Good looking brindle boy with correct head and pleasing general outline and body proportions. Moved out steadily with his handler but tended to lose his topline and was too fond of his tail. 3 Edwards and Lavin's Swincombe Darite. PGD (4,2a) 1 Williams Swindombes Noss Mayo. A well up to size brindle with a pleasing head and overall good outline moving and standing but a little close behind. 2 Finch's Haberfield Heinrich. Harsh coated bitch with a lovely head and expression but couldn't match the shoulder placement of Noss Mayo. LD (7) (1 Absent) 1 McCalmont's Silvae Paradigm. Well boned brindle in good coat. Correct head and neck and good front assembly and shoulder placement. Well angulated front and rear and level topline but would prefer a little longer ribbing and shorter loin. Moved steadily but needs to strengthen behind. So well presented as all dogs are from this Kennel. 2 Lever's Reveldown Glenmorangie. Again another harsh coated and well presented dog of correct proportions. Preferred his hind angulation to the winner but was straighter in shoulder than Paradigm. Close decision between 2 and 3. 3 Vine's Cishelvine Seaswell. OD (3) 3 Lovely dogs of varying types but all shown in great condition. 1 Moore's Ch Aventine Rainman At Romanchi JW. I awarded him Res. Best in Show last year and he didn't disappoint today as he has matured well. He is sired by the American dog Ch/IR/Am CH Raydachs Tom Cruisen On who also sired the Best Puppy and the Bitch Res. CC. Strong masculine head, good neck and shoulders flowing into a deep and well ribbed body and strong quarters. Well boned and balanced body with good angulation front and rear. Moved out steadily with his handler and movement was especially good in profile. A quality dog with the look of a real stallion. Dog CC. Tight decision for B.O.B. Just preferred the overall elegance of the bitch and she showed a little more animation in the final challenge. 2 McCalmont's Silvae Patiot. Another harsh coated dog presented in great condition and sired by American import Ch/Am Ch Starbarrack Bone Appetite. Lovely head and neck, good shoulders and body outline. Just preferred the rear angulation and strength of movement of Rainman. Placed Patriot over Granadier as he wasn't showing much enthusiasm in his showing today. Nevertheless one to be proud of and in a great harsh jacket. 3 Rollinson's Ch Ir Ch Nosinllor Granadier Sh CM. VD/B (1) 1 McCalmont's Ch Silvae Pickwick. A splendid veteran of nearly 9 years of age and shown in peak condition. A quality dog who pressed hard for the ticket but his rear movement was a little stiffer and not so positive as Rainman's. Awarded him the Res CC as he couldn't be denied as he was blessed with many other great attributes. Lovely size, good general conformation and coat condition. Pleased to see him awarded Best Veteran in Show. PB (6,2a) 1 Moore's Molloney Ann Other At Romanchi. Very promising 9 month quality brindle puppy who I seriously considered in the ticket line up. One to be proud of and also sired by the American dog Tom Cruisen On. Elegant, with feminine head, good reach of neck and forechest, correct lay back of shoulder and length of ribbing and great topline standing and moving. Finished off by a good coat and turn of stifle and well rounded rump. I liked her a lot and will follow her career with interest. Well handled and presented. Best Puppy in Breed. Res. Best Puppy in Show. 2 Edwards Lovehayne Black Opal. Another pleasing brindle puppy who wasn't so mature as the winner but nevertheless had a feminine head and eye, good body construction but did not have the lay back of shoulder or drive behind of Ann. Very promising. Placed her over her litter sister as she held a better outline on the move. 3 Edwards Lovehayne Black Eyed Susie. JB (5,1a) Very close decision between first three placings - different types with different attributes. 1 McCalmont's Silvae Zest. Sired by Silvae Patriot and litter sister to my Limit Dog winner. Brindle with feminine head and good bone. Similar remarks apply as to Paradigm but Zest tended to be a little fond of her tail when moving. 2 Gibson's Allfrey's Grace Kelly. Very feminine bitch of the correct size and of good body construction. I liked her a lot but just preferred the front assembly of Zest especially when moving as she lost her front, but her rear movement was strong and she used her hindquarters to drive along. Good firm topline standing and on the move and well muscled and angulated at the rear. 3 Seath's Sunsong Gypsy Music. PGB (6,3a) 1 Locksmith's Abbeydac Rosemary. Feminine brindle bitch with good head and neck and rear angulation. Would like a little more forechest to complete the picture. Tended to hold her tail a little high on the move so lost her topline. Nevertheless lovely to see these happy dogs but it does spoil their general outline on the move. 2 Kent's Monisi Calamity Jane. Lovely coated brindle with a good head and topline but underline a little tucked up, and I would like to see a better spring of rib. Lost out to Rosemary on rear movement. 3 Harmer's Ballanroo All That Jazz. LB (7,1a) 1 Seath's Sunsong Gypsy Rose. A happy correctly sized young chocolate bitch with a lot to offer and also sired by Tom Cruisen On. Nothing overdone. A very workmanlike yet feminine, well muscled exhibit. So good to see as many would have strengthened in movement if they were able to experience more daily exercise. She moved freely and effortlessly keeping her topline all the time. Looked as if she could go all day. Quality bitch with feminine head and good reach of neck flowing into good shoulders and correct length of ribbing to loin. Well balanced and angulated front and rear. Also well handled and presented. Res CC. 2 Pughe and Fraser's Bystock Inca. Harsh coated lovely dark brindle who presented a great picture standing and on the move. Pleasing head and eye and reach of neck, good length of ribbing, topline and underline. Quality exhibit who moved out well with her handler. Just preferred Gypsy Rose's firmer and more positive hind movement. 3 Hitchens and Lewis' Ashihna Hijean At Trixhund. B (6,1a) Close decision between the first three placings. 1 Pughe and Fraser's Ch Bystock Pumpkin Pie. Sired by another American dog Ch Brazos Ski Uno's Bowteak. Quality, hard coated bitch who was lovely to go over. So well balanced and nothing overdone. Loved her as soon as I saw her enter the ring. Feminine head, good reach of neck, length of ribbing, shoulder placement and feet. Well off for bone without being coarse. She moved soundly and with drive using her strong quarters. So well handled and presented. CC and Best of Breed. 2 Rollinson's Ch Mosinllor Joan Of Arc. Another top quality bitch to be proud of in a harsh jacket and with harsh leg hair. Similar remarks apply as to Pumpkin Pie but a little longer cast and such a happy girl tends to fly her tail and so lose her topline on the move. A worthy champion. 3 Gibson's Allfrey's Ursula.
