AVENTINE MY COUSIN RACHEL (MESDAMES MOORE & DOWNES)

It’s been just under 2 years since I last judged this variety with a terrific entry at The Houndshow. The result being that this entry contained many dogs that had done well under me there including class winners, a RCC winner & to my surprise one of my CC winners. So maybe we need more than a two year gap between appointments for this variety. This really brought home to me that you have to judge the dogs in front of you as you see them at that moment in time. This is why I take notes on the individual dogs so they tell me how I see each dog at that moment in time. Things like coat, muscle tone, weight & body condition can only be judged on each separate occasion. Numerically I still had one of the better entries this year & as usual I really enjoyed judging this most jolly of the six varieties. Reflecting on this entry I found size more uniform & profile movement exceptional. Shoulders on some seem a little straight with no layback & this does reflect in the front movement. We are looking for a hound & not a terrier; the fore chest should fit in the crook neatly giving the correct length of upper arm & layback in shoulder. I found hind quarters exceptional on the day, good length of second thigh helping to produce super driving action .It’s a shame we were so late getting into a ring, thank you for your patience & for our stewards Terry & Sheila Munro for stepping in to help when a spare ring became available to us earlier. Thank you once again for a most enjoyable exercise finishing off with our BOB making the cut in the group.

PD,(2),1 & BP, Wharton & Pugh’s DEROCHAISE BLACK TARQUIN, Compact baby with a stunning head piece, super dark oval eyes, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, well-muscled for age, well-proportioned body, good length of ribbing, firm topline, short loins leading into very good quarters, firm, strong and parallel, tail well set and carried. Sound enough for a 10month pup coming & going & in profile really shows great reach & follow through for one so young keeping a lovely outline & carriage. Full of promise as was his brother,2,Vine’s DEROCHAISE JUSTIFIED FOR CHISHELVINE, just from the type & head piece you can tell these two are related, lovely long neck, super shoulders & possibly more developed in keel than 1,good shoulders, long ribbing with solid top line & correct underline, shade longer in loins than 1 but the same exceptional hind quarters. On the day he was cleaner in front action & moved out with the same reach & drive as his brother, though today he appeared more raw & lacked the overall polished performance of 1.Fabulous coat & presentation

JD (2), 1, Phillips’ TENDROW REPLAYED IN BLUE, beautifully balanced 15 month, in superb coat & condition & presents a most pleasing overall picture. Lovely head & alert expression, ears correctly set & used, well arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, plenty of fore chest on good legs & feet, lovely body all in proportion with correct height to length ratio, ribbing extends well back into short firm loins, well made behind, super length of second thigh with firm parallel hocks, sound enough coming & going, looks a joy in profile with a typical gait with arrogance & style that makes you look twice. Without doubt will make the grade. 2,Langridge’s TENDROW ELBERTA, a shade more exaggerated throughout than 1, super head & eye, well chiselled fore face, ample neck though not the layback in shoulder to 1, good keel that extends well back, very good ribbing with firm top line, plenty of ground clearance, good firm well angulated quarters full of muscle, tail well set & carried at all times. Sound enough coming but excels in hind action, really sound going away, presenting a pleasing overall picture in profile

PGD (4), 1, Smith’s JETHARD TWO TO TANGO AT SALIXIAN, really smart 18 month red free from any exaggeration, so well balanced & full of type that appealed greatly, loved his head & melting expression, super dark points & the darkest of eye, lovely well arched neck leading into good shoulders, has super bone & feet, plenty of fore chest all fitting with nice tight elbows, good body all in proportion, neat & compact, very good ribbing with short firm loins. Enough hind angulation which he used so well on the move to demonstrate good sound driving action. His coat is in first class condition & overall presentation faultless. He keeps it together on the move showing his classic outline in profile. I just loved the neatness & flowing lines on this boy, in the challenge I just wanted him to step his performance up a gear & give a little more. Reminded me very much of the old fashioned Wire & for all his positives should always appeal. 2, Bliss’ KNOTTSROSE JUNIPER, larger & more exaggerated than 1, masculine head & expression, good length of fore face, good firm neck, solid well made front though not the layback on shoulder to 1,. Super bone & feet, good solid top line holding well developed ribbing that extends well back. Firm loins lead into well balanced & angled quarters, moving a touch to wide in front today but totally sound going away, presents a pleasing picture in profile excellent follow through from behind. A very good showman that displays his many virtues to great advantage & in very good tight wire coat

LD (4,1abs), 1, Warren’s WAGSFORD LINCON, taller & more elegant than some but in proportion. His head & expression appeal greatly, gives a masculine outlook with no sign of coarseness, long mobile neck which he carries so well on the move, neat fitting front with tight elbows, would prefer better bunched feet, good firm top line & correct underline, thick loins, correctly set & carried tail, firm parallel quarters, quite precise coming & going & gives a floorless performance in profile projecting himself so well displaying lovely reach in front & follow through behind. For me just a little too much exaggerated all through & too much ground clearance though will obviously appeal to many for his breed type & showmanship. Still a youngster with lots to offer. 2, Weatherer’s SALIXIAN LEVANTE VIA ITSUITZUZ, more mature, less exaggerated & lower to ground, excels in head & expression, really lovely deep dark oval shaped eyes, enough neck leading into well placed shoulders, tight elbows on good legs & feet, good keel that extends well back into his underline, shorter more compact body with well covered ribbing, good short thick loins leading into firm hammy quarters. Not as precise coming & going than 1, projects himself well in profile though just not opening his gait in the same way as the winner. His balance & coat greatly appeal as does his breed type. 3, Bubb’s TECKLEGARTH LEAPOFFAITH TO WYEKNOT

OD (5), A really lovely class to sort through. 1, CC & BOB, Moore & Coverley’s CH/IR CH SENTIA I’M BOND JAMES BOND, Mature, balanced, no exaggeration but all in proportion, this chap gave me the complete overall picture. Super head & expression with a determined outlook, firm well arched neck leading into text book shoulders, lovely tight elbows on very good legs & the thickest & tightest of feet. Plenty of fore chest with keel that extends well back. Firm top line with correct underline & enough ground clearance. Ribbing is well sprung leading into short thick loins, tail is well set & carried over the croup, so well angulated behind, so firm & neat. His angulation is quite clear & correct. Hocks are short, neat & parallel. Totally sound coming & going & delivers the overall package in profile. He clearly gives a floorless performance with his reach & follow through keeping a faultless outline. His jacket is tight & well presented with the correct amount of furnishings. Everything just flowed on this boy & filled my eye completely, free from exaggeration with everything fitting so neatly & correctly left me with no hesitation to award him everything today, a real Wire that could do a day’s work with plenty to spare. A treat to see him shortlisted in the group. Congratulations. 2, McCalmont’s SILVAE FARRAGO, this youngster appealed greatly to me, more exaggerated throughout but in proportion. Fit, active & built on flowing lines. He gives a polished performance & draws your eye immediately. His head & expression Is stunning. So perfect from muzzle to skull. long firm well arched neck leading into well-developed shoulders that just are not quite as laid back as 1, very good fore chest with plenty of width, very good legs & feet, good body & ribbing be a shade longer than 1, cast iron top line with correct continuation to tail set & carriage. He too has unbelievable hind angulation, so well made & an object lesson in correctness. Today just not as precise coming towards me but sound enough. Spot on going away & excels in carriage when watching in profile with tremendous drive. His coat & condition are a treat & he appeared to have more covering in body on the day over a great favourite of mine that he pushed into a close third. Three cracking males that do this variety proud. Without doubt will easily make up. 3, Coverley’s CH AVENTINE JAMAICA INN

PB, (3), Gibson’s ALLFREYS ROSABAYA, quality feminine 8 month baby full of potential, loved her overall size & shape, still raw in places & needs to finish developing in some areas but for her age she is exactly as I would like, beautiful head & sweet expression, lovely long neck leading into very good shoulders, plenty of fore chest, needs to drop into her front more yet which she will do, good body proportions, her hind angulation is correct with short neat hocks, needing to firm up a bit on the move coming & going but already holds her shape well in profile. Full of potential, she really appeals. 2, Wharton’s GREYHAYNE LOTTY MERRY, built on larger lines than 1 & her coat still needs time. Good head & eye if a little strong over the skull, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, front is more developed than 1 & fits correctly, long body but in proportion, good ribbing & top line, possess lovely hind quarters that are already firm & parallel, coming & going she is quite sound & precise already & projects herself well in profile with a lovely head carriage. Just preferred the size & more femine outlook of 1, promising. 3, Vine’s CISHELVINE CARELESS WISPA

JB, (3,1), 1 & RCC, Davies’ TENDROW JOIE DE VIVRE AT ATAHIRA, super coated 16 month that has the makings of a very good Dachshund, she catches your eye at all times especially for her neck carriage & perfect shoulder placement. Her head is simply gorgeous, good strong jaws & correct ratio’s from muzzle to skull, sweet expression with the darkest of oval shaped eyes, firm well arched neck that lead into text book shoulders, her angles are an object lesson, tight elbows on good legs & feet, lovely prominent breast bone that fits so correctly into the crook, lovely deep oval rib cage, correct top & underlines, correct amount of ground clearance, short thick loins leading into fabulous quarters, good length of second thigh & firm parallel hocks, tail correctly set & carried. Absolutely sound coming & going & projects herself well in profile with the correct Dachshund head carriage not being held upright. Her extension in front & follow through from behind is there for all to see. Fit & with the tightest of jackets, full of breed type, I see she is by my BOB from the Houndshow, a few more months & sure Champ under judges that know correct angulation on a Dachshund. 2, Rowe’s BOLORIA’S FOREVER FOOLISH, another very promising bitch that has potential to go places, appealing head with correct colour points, lovely neck that leads into good shoulders, though not as precise in angles as 1, good fore chest & length of keel, beautiful body & ribbing. Cast iron top line which continues with a correctly set tail & carriage. She too possesses super hind quarters & really knows how to use them on the move. Coming & going not quite as tidy as 1, in profile she powers around the ring keeping a very attractive outline. Fabulous coat & condition & shown to great advantage. One that will always be hanging around the top placings.

PGB (5, 1), 1, Philips’ HOTOTO SWELLEGANT GAL AT TENDROW, good sized feminine bitch with a very good head & typical expression, well-muscled neck that leads into very good shoulders, tight elbows & plenty of fore chest that fits so well, very good feet, good firm top line with deep oval rib cage, for me she cuts up a touch in underline, thick short loins with solid well angulated quarters, nice short hocks. Moves very sound in front, keeps a good outline in profile with a lovely carriage & overall outline. For me today she could have opened her gait a little more in profile especially from behind. Fabulous coat & so well-muscled throughout. 2, Warren’s WAGSFORD LYDIA, lovely type & shape, built on racier lines with a shade more exaggeration throughout, lovely head & eye, long mobile neck which she uses on the move to great advantage, good shoulders though not as clean & laid back as 1, good length & depth of keel, very good body & ribbing, longer than 1 but all in proportion, firm top line & good underline, good firm loins that lead into well angulated hind quarters. Today was not a precise as 1 coming towards me but really sound moving away, she really motors in profile though sometimes by going in over drive can detract from her lovely profile action & overall picture. Has plenty of ground clearance & also presents a beautiful picture in stance, a good bitch. 3, Davis’ KNOTTSROSE ANEMONE

LB (7, 1), Just like the OD class this was a treat to judge, quality girls right down the line. 1 & CC, Morris’ WAGSFORD WINONA OF ROCINDA, bang on form in first class condition, excels in type & balance, so well-constructed throughout & ultra-feminine. Fabulous head & expression, good strong bite with correct length of under jaw, dark almond eyes add to her melting expression, firm well arched neck lead into very good fore quarters, super shoulders & angles, tight elbows & very good legs & feet. Her fore chest is well developed & fits correctly with her keel extending well back under her front legs. Her body is solid with good deep oval ribbing, correct top & underlines lead into short thick loins; tail is well set & gives the correct continuation of her spine. So well angulated behind with thick hammy quarters. Ultra sound coming & going & projects herself so well in profile clearly showing correct reach & follow through. Her coat & presentation is spot on with just the right amount of furnishings. She delivered the overall package today & I’m delighted to hear she walked away a Champion, congratulations. 2, Vine’s CHISELVINE ENIGMA OF THE SEA, another super coated bitch on top form, beautiful head & expression, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows on good legs & feet, plenty of width through her front & everything fits so neatly, good body & ribbing with firm top line, correct height to length ratios, firm well made quarters though not quite the length of second thigh than 1 resulting in being a shade longer in hocks though very well-muscled & parallel. Another ultra sound girl coming & going, really pulling the stops out in profile presenting a classic picture. She too is another top flight bitch. 3, Smith’s TENDROW ROUGE ET NOIRE AT SALIXIAN

OB (4,1) 1, McCalmont’s CH SILVAE SOLO, such a well-constructed bitch great coat & condition, greatly appeals for type, built on lovely flowing lines, beautiful head & expression with lovely dark almond eyes giving a lovely feminine outlook, well arched neck leading into well-constructed solid fore quarters, fantastic muscle & fabulous legs & tight feet, good ribbing that extends well back with cast iron top line, correct underline & ground clearance, short thick loins that lead into super hind quarters, neat & correctly angled, hocks short & parallel, sound enough coming & going & her overall picture in profile is beautiful with the correct head carriage through to her well carried tail. The ultimate showgirl. In the challenge I felt the layback of shoulder on the winners was more precise, but it really was knit picking, a real credit to the breed. 2, Warren’s CH WAGSFORD FLORANCE, one of my all-time favourite bitches, having awarded her & her owners their very first CC at The Houndshow I was surprised to see her again. However you must judge what you have under on the day & not judge with your heart! My opinion has not changed about Florance but today she was not on top form especially with my top winners being bang on form for coat & condition. Infact her litter sister won the CC today so that just confirms that these are the type of bitches that really appeal to me. I can confirm that she is still as beautifully made as the day I gave her top honours & she still oozes femininity, what she did lack today though was muscle tone & finish to coat. Certainly her profile carriage & action is still there. She can still win big green cards in hard condition. 3, Moore & Downes’ AVENTINE MY COUSIN RACHEL
