Many thanks to Leeds committee for the invitation to judge W/h Dachshunds, always a pleasurable experience, my thanks also to both efficient ring stewards. Thank you to exhibitors for allowing me to assess their hounds.

PD (6) 1 Arthur’s Hototo’s Bark At The Moon, very promising youngster just short of 10 months, presented a balanced outline of correct proportions, liked his masculine head, strong bone, balanced angulation, pleasing in top & underline, well ribbed back, well filled front, neat elbows & well bunched feet, harsh jacket, moved out with an easy stride. BP; 2 Bates & Maes-Jones’ Derochaise Versace, at just 7 months this harsh coated youngster was “raw” in comparison to 1, pleased in head & angulation, good proportions, as yet not the forechest of 1, moved out with a good stride; 3 Vine’s Cishelvine Caught Out. JD (3) 1 Vig’s B Q-rrens-dax Enzo-topazo, this 15 months youngster has some fine breed points, excellent bone, super bunched feet, balanced angulation front & rear, & an excellent harsh coat even on his legs & feet, however he still needs to firm up all over, on the go around he loses his topline & needs to carry his tail lower; 2 Carter’s Romanchi Stargazer, also 15 months out of a much larger frame, whilst he is firmer all through & his coat is OK, he would look better with less weight, & was sluggish on the go around, thought that 1 scored in front, coat & feet. PGD (3) 1 Marston-Pollock’s Cloudside Oliver, top quality youngster of 19 months out of the top draw, has immediate appeal, real houndy head, has super build & construction, with balanced angulation in both fore & rear, well filled front, excellent top & underline, great bone, in great muscular condition, good reach & drive in movement, well presented harsh coat, expect to hear more of this lad. RCC; 2 Vine’s Derochaise Justified for Cishelvine, at 2 years this houndy lad looked raw in comparison to 1, will look better carrying more condition, slightly longer cast, real masculine head, great coat, not quite the front of 1; 3 Bellamy’s Veenen Onyx Resetin Gold at Garjay. LD (5) 1 Paskins’ Tendrow Replays The Red Guy at Kindeace, neat 3 years red in good jacket, presented a balanced outline of correct proportions, well bodied with good ribbing, pleased in his forehand with well filled front & neat elbows, moved out soundly; 2 Langridge’s Tendrow Elberta, lots of good points on this 2 years brindle, out of a ranger mould, good angulation, houndy head, good ribbing, strong bone & good hindquarters, was not concentrating on the job in hand, however I saw enough for him to gain this placing, perhaps more schooling required; 3 Smith’s Jethard Two To Tango at Salixian. OD (6) 1 Phillips’ Ch Wiretap Here I Am, super houndy red, correct proportions & outline, in firm hard condition & with excellent harsh jacket, loved his attitude & showmanship, forehand construction was textbook, with prominent pro-sternum & stands true on his front, ribbing, top & underline were excellent, good width to hammy quarters, moved soundly with verve. CC & BOB; 2 Coverley’s Ch Aventine Jamaica Inn, top quality brindle with the stamp of his sire about him (I see that the RCC also has the same sire), easy to see how he carries his title, excelled in head, bone, ribbing & hindquarters, excellent crisp coat, was close up in the challenge, preferred the return of upper arm of his half brother; 3 McCalmont’s Ch Silvae Farrago. VD (1) 1 Carter’s Romanchi Alkansea, this brindle rising 8 years pleases for type & overall shape, well filled front, liked his head, balanced angulation in forehand & hindquarters enabled him to move out with an easy action, although comes on a little wide. Coat OK but needs tidying. BV.

PB (6) These youngsters were all very unsettled, some unsure of the surface & found it difficult to concentrate on the job in hand. 1 Bates & Maes-Jones’ Derochaise Elusia, very feminine 7 months dark brindle baby, liked her overall shape, has correct height/length ratio, has a neat well filled front, good ribbing giving smooth underline, pleased in angulation front & rear, managed to see enough to give her this placing, looks promising; 2 Binks’ Cishelvine Just This Once, nice sized brindle of 10 months, pleasing feminine head, well filled front, although not the front angulation of 1, well ribbed back, good angulation in hindquarters, needs to settle in topline, coat is harsh & will look better in full jacket; 3 Smith’s Salixian Tea For Two. JB (3) Little to chose between these two youngsters, on today’s performance I chose 1 Maxwell’s Bardrestan Queen Of The South, 16 months brindle of pleasing size, appealed for outline, bone & ribbing, neat well filled front, kept her shape on the move with good profile gait; 2 Dean’s Brontillow Grace Darling, well bodied dark brindle of 12 months, good bone, front was well filled but preferred neatness of 1, slightly longer cast, needing to firm up in her topline. PGB (6) 1 Rowe’s Boloria’s Tiger Lily, most lovely choc/t of 16 months, liked her balanced outline, good forehand with well filled front & return of upper arm, excellent top & underline, houndy head, lengthy ribbing, full of life, moved out easily with verve, certainly one for the future; 2 Clayton-Smith’s Boloria’s April Fool, nice sized very dark brindle of 2 years, very close coat, again balanced in outline, pleasing angulation & ribbing, close up to 1, preferred the forehand & sheer verve of 1, moved OK but not really concentrating on the job in hand; 3 Cishelvine Careless Wispa. LB (2) 1 Carruthers’ Brumberhill Bellina, although alone this r/br of 21 months was fully deserving of her placing, pleased for type, well constructed, balanced in her angulation, good top & underline, harsh jacket, was a little unsettled having been rushed into the class, however she moved out with an easy & sound ground covering action. OB (7) Excellent class full of quality. 1 McCalmont’s Ch Silvae Solo, this top quality 3 years brindle is of excellent breed type, in firm hard condition, height/length ratio is correct, presents a balanced outline with good angulation, excellent top & underline, real houndy head with proud carriage, well developed forehand & muscular hammy quarters with short hocks, well presented in good harsh jacket, really covered the ground with strong driving action. CC; 2 Rowe’s Boloria’s Naughty But Nice, this 4 years choc/t was close up, full of verve like her kennelmate, pleases in all breed points, forehand development, lengthy ribbing, well developed quarters, height/length ratio, good jacket, was sound in movement really covered the ground. RCC; 3 Bates & Maes-Jones’ Ch Derochaise Elegancia.
