Just love this variety of the breed, & I was honoured to judge them today. I found depth of quality in all classes. My Open Dog class was a real pleasure to judge. I did notice a couple of exaggerations – moderately long & low & compact were what I was looking for. Over long & swan necks is not what this beautiful breed is about. I could not imagine these facing up to a badger! All dogs had excellent temperaments & all were immaculately presented. I thank the exhibitors for their support.
PD (2,1a) 1 Moore & Downes’ Megline Aramis, big brindle boy (would have liked him smaller). Super head & expression. Almond eye, strong jaw & muzzle had slight arch. Good forechest. Good shoulder placement & length to upper arm. Topline level. Strong loin & rear angulation correct. All essentials were there, but still very much a puppy. Excellent harsh jacket. True mover. JD (2) 1 Sorensen’s Tendrow Time After Time, very impressed with this red 14 months. Not exaggerated in any way. Well balanced with a level topline. Skull conical from above, with slight arch & of correct proportions. Good eyebrow ridges over nice almond eye. Strong jaw with slightest of arch to muzzle. Ears high set & used well. Long muscular neck with slight arch leading to excellent correctly placed shoulders. Length to upper arm gave great forechest. Good bone throughout. Rib had length & depth & loin short, broad & strong. Length to croup & tail well set. Plenty of muscletone to first & second thigh, & rear angulation set at right angles to upper thigh. All this combined to produce the long stride I was looking for with plenty of drive from rear. Good harsh jacket, though not as much furnishings as some. His movement managed to win, by a whisker, the RCC from the second in Open who was an extremely lovely dog too; 2 Ellis’ Bohemian Rhapsody, another 14 months this time a brindle. He was rather shy & not as mature as the winner. His bone was good, but needs to fill out. Good head properties, almond eye & strong jaw. Neck had length & flowed well into withers. Shoulders good but he did not have the forechest of winner. Well ribbed, but loin lacked the strength I was looking for & although he had excellent hind angulation, this lack of strength made his movement erratic. Good harsh coat. PGD (2,1) 1 T Time After Time. LD (7,1) 1 Bliss’ Knottsrose Juniper at Tobenkipt, well balanced with lovely outline. Strong head with correct skull/muzzle proportions. Nice bushy eyebrow ridges over nice almond eye. Neck had reach & arch. Shoulders well placed to give a good forechest & upper arm had length. Well ribbed with depth & length & loin short & strong. Croup had length & sloped slightly to well set on tail. Hindquarters well angulated, being set at right angles to pelvis. Set himself up well & from rear legs parallel. True parallel mover with drive & reach. Good jacket; 2 Sorensen’s Jethard Just Jive, this was another quality dog with great head attributes & lovely outline. Much of what I have said about this class winner applies here too. Well angulated front & rear. Well ribbed with short loin & had super muscletone. True mover. Pushed the winner hard; 3 Paskins’ Tendrow Replays The Red Guy at Kindeace. OD (8) 1 Moore’s Metewand Bogen by The Sea, gather this dog already has his title. Not surprised. He was lovely to go over. Strong masculine head, conical from above & correct muzzle/skull proportions. Good bushy eyebrow ridges over a lovely almond eye. Slight arch to muzzle & strong punishing jaw with correct dentition. Ears well placed & used well. Good length to neck with no exaggeration, slightly arched, blinding into shoulders. These were well laid at 45 degrees & had good length. The upper arm was also long & gave him a great forechest. Ribs had depth & length giving plenty of heartroom. Pasterns strong allowing good ground clearance. The level topline lead to strong, broad loin. Good muscletone on first & second thigh, & strong well angulated rear quarters. Hocks parallel standing & on the move. When moving had great drive from rear & produced a lovely long stride. CC & BOB; 2 Coverley’s Ch Aventine Jamaica Inn, another quality dog who pushed the winner hard & only just missed out on the RCC by the smallest of margins. I can see them changing places on another day. He is another well balanced dog with a lovely outline. Great strength in head & well proportioned with well set almond eye. Excellent front & forechest. Good rib with depth & length. Strong bone & muscletone throughout. Excellent angulation front & rear. Hind legs parallel from rear. Although an excellent mover did not have the drive of winner today; 3 Rollinson’s Bellavin Invincible at Nosinllor.
PB (2) 1 Wharton’s Greyhayne Black Velvet, well balanced youngster. Lovely feminine head. Good almond eye & head proportions. Front straight with sufficient bone & forechest prominent. Good length to neck, which led to well angulated shoulder & good length to upper arm. Rib developing nicely & had depth & length. Muscletone coming in nicely & loin firm. Tail well set on. Well angulated rear with hocks parallel. Moved with drive & stretched out in front. Jacket well presented. BP. Delighted to hear that she went on to win PG4; 2 Binks’ Cishelvine Just This Once, another attractive youngster, although coat not as good as winner as I felt was the case with the rearquarters. Pleasing head with correct conical skull & eyebrow ridges. Almond eye & strong jaw. Length to neck which was gracefully blended into shoulders. Although shoulders well laid the upper arm was a little shorter. Rib was had depth & length & loin short. Muscletone must be worked on as this affects strength of rear movement, although movement itself was good. JB (3,1) 1 Phillips’ Tendrow Dancing On A Dream at Clipperdown, just over a year this red had lots to admire. Good feminine head with all essentials. Skull, muzzle proportions, eye & earset were all I was hoping to see. Strength in jaw. Lovely neck with reach & slight arch melding into shoulders. The correct angles were present & the shoulders blades were long. Upper arm of good length & this gave forechest prominence. Length to upper arm. Rib had plenty of heartroom. Short strong loin. Well angulated rearquarters with muscletone to first & second thighs. Moved well with drive; 2 Seath’s Sunsong Wish Me Luck, this attractive brindle also had a good head & expression. Just enough length to neck & shoulders well placed although would have like a little more upper arm. Forechest in evidence & rib was deep & long. Rear angulation was good & hocks parallel. She looked lovely stacked, but let herself down on the move as she did not keep her topline as it went up slightly towards the tail & this in turn made her flag her tail a bit. The movement itself was good with power & drive. PGB (2) 1 Morris’ Wagsford Giselle, nice well balanced bitch of good size. Liked all her head features, & she had a nice feminine expression. She had the strength in jaw that is essential & ears were well set. The reach of neck was very good – not exaggerated, elegant yet strong. This blended nicely into the correct shoulder placement of 45 degree. Upper arm was of good length I was pleased to note. The forechest was great as were the ribs. Bone strong. Topline was kept at all times & loin short, broad & strong. Excellent rearquarters with correct angulation. I was amazed she had had a litter only 4 months ago. She really has got her figure back. Not surprising with this construction she was an excellent mover; 2 Bubb’s Rocinda Dora for Wyeknot, another quality bitch, but movement not so positive as winner. This was probably due to the fact she was not so well angulated in rear. Having said the negatives, there was much to like in this bitch. Very nice head with everything the Standard wants. The front was good so angulation correct & upper arm had length. Good forechest & rib had plenty of heartroom. Strong bone & loin broad & well muscled. Good jacket. LB (3) 1 Wharton’s Greyhayne Lotty Merry, caught my eye immediately. Such a lovely feminine bitch. Conical skull & good ridges over her almond eyes. Muzzle proportion good with slight arch on muzzle. Strong jaws. Ears well set & neck going into excellent shoulders. Upper arm correct & this gave a really good forechest which carried on to give a rib with depth & length. Strong & short in loin which supported the level topline. Rear angulation had the power I was looking for, with muscletone evident. Short well angulated second thigh. True parallel movement with drive from rear making a long stride. RCC; 2 Rees & Dible’s Liebling Fly Me To The Moon, another attractive bitch with a melting expression. Good head properties, strong jaw & dentition. Reach of neck with slight arch. Shoulders well placed & upper arm had length. Good forechest & depth & length of rib. Hindquarters had correct angulation & legs parallel. Good muscletone. Front movement not as positive as winner; 3 Rowe’s Boloria’s Forever Foolish. OB (5,1) 1 Coverley’s Aventine Dawn Patrol, excellent bitch. Long conical head with slight stop & slight arch to muzzle. Almond eye & strong jaw with good dentition. Elegant neck with length & had slight arch. Good front because front angulation correct. Strong in bone & pasterns. Rib had plenty of heartroom. Strong loin with slight arch. Length to croup & tail well set. Rearquarters had plenty of muscletone & were well angulated. Good quality bone & strong pasterns. This bitch had what I was looking for – elegance with strength. A lovely bitch to go over. Did not let herself down on the move, long free stride with plenty of drive from rear. Delighted to award her the CC; 2 McCalmont’s Ch Silvae Solo, another quality bitch, more racy in appearance. Good head with almond eye. Good eyebrow ridges & slight arch to muzzle. Ears well placed on broad skull. Strong jaw & good dentition. Would not want any more length to neck, but it was very elegant & had a nice arch. Good forechest & correctly angulated fore & aft. Rib had length & depth allowing a good level topline & plenty of heartroom. Bone strong as were the pasterns. Short strong loins with slight arch & croup had length. Tail well set on. First & second thighs had muscletone. Movement good with length to stride & drive from rear; 3 Warren’s Wagsford Lydia.
