Many thanks to the Committee of the Dachshund Club of Wales for inviting me to Judge the Standard Wires at their Championship Show. This was my first judging appointment awarding CC’s and I was rewarded with a superb entry of quality exhibits, many thanks to everyone’s support and for the very able assistance of my two stewards.

Standard Wirehaired Dachshund
Minor Puppy Dog (4.1) 1. Rowe’s Boloria’s Cincinnati, 7 months old chocolate dog of correct size. Well constructed front with good lay of shoulders, good rear angulation, strode out well with good movement BPD. 2. Gibson’s Allfreys Here’s Looking At You, 8 months old dog, excellent harsh coat, well placed shoulders and good rear angulation, 2 promising puppies but just preferred the front movement of 1. 3. Greenwood’s Tobenkipt Chronos.
Puppy Dog (5.0) 1. Rowe’s Boloria’s Cincinnati, 2. Gibson’s Allfreys Here’s Looking At You 3. Greenwood’s Tobenkipt Chronos.
Junior Dog (2.0) 1. Moore & Downes Megline Aramis, 16 months old dog of a larger type. excellent front construction with well placed shoulders, good rear angulation, good profile, just needs time to mature. 2. Vine’s Cishelvine Caught Out, 16 months old brindle with a harsh wire coat, well constructed dog but at odds with his handler on the move, preferred the movement of 1.
Post Graduate (1.0) 1. Ellis’s Vixendax Bohemian Rhapsody, 22 months old dog, good harsh jacket, well placed shoulders, good rear angulation, moved ok.
Limit Dog (6.2) 1. Langridge’s Tendrow Elberta Shcm, lovely 3 year old brindle dog of correct size, harsh wire coat, good front shoulder placement, well ribbed, good rear angulation, moved true, strode around the ring with drive holding his topline at all times. RCC. 2. Bliss’s Knottsrose Juniper at Tobenkipt, good harsh coat, nicely constructed dog with good profile, just preferred the movement of 1. 3. Sorenson’s Tendrow Time After Time.
Open Dog (6.2) 1. McCalmont’s CH Silvae Farrago, 3 year old brindle dog of correct size and proportions, very well balanced and presented. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders, good length of rib, excellent rear angulation, moved with drive around the ring. Very pleased to award him the CC. 2. Lawrence and Langley’s Allfreys Black Grouse, 2 year old brindle dog with correct harsh coat, well placed shoulders, good topline and well angulated hindquarters, did not have the drive of 1.
3. Sorenson’s Jethard Just Jive.
Veteran Dog or Bitch (1.0) 1. McCalmont’s CH Silvae Mystic, 10 year old brindle bitch, excellent harsh wire coat, what can you say about this bitch that has not been said before, excellent construction throughout, still moves with drive around the ring and obviously still enjoys it. Lovely example of the breed.
Minor Puppy Bitch ((2.0) 1. Coleman’s Chalkney Rosina, 6 months old red bitch, nice size bitch with a good coat, nicely placed shoulders, good hind angulation, nice parallel hind movement. Moved well. 2. Bubb’s Wagsford Cordelia of Wyeknot. 6 months old brindle bitch, good coat, well constructed front, very enthusiastic on the move, just needs time to settle.
Puppy Bitch (8.0) 1. Pugh & Fraser’s Bystock Pannacotta, 9 months old bitch of correct size and proportions, well presented with a harsh textured light bridle coat, good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders, good length of rib, nice parallel movement coming and going with good ground clearance, moved well. BP
2. Warren’s Wagsford Jennifer, 10 months old , another very promising puppy, lovely dark brindle with a harsh wire coat, good shoulders and hind angulation, just preferred the movement of 1 on the day. 3. Seath’s Hell’s Ozlem at Sunsong.
Junior Bitch (1.0) Wharton’s Greyhayne Black Velvet, 15 months old, light brindle bitch of correct size and proportions, good harsh coat. Good length of neck, well placed shoulders, nice profile, moved well, stood alone in this class but deserved her 1st place.
Post Graduate Bitch. (4.1) 1. Bubb’s Rocinda Dora for Wyeknot, 2 year old brindle bitch, lovely harsh wire coat, well constructed front with correct shoulder placement, good hind angulation, lovely parallel movement , good profile, moved with drive around the ring, 2. Vines Cishelvine Careless Wispa, nicely constructed bitch with good shoulder placement and well angulated rear, moved well but just preferred the overall picture of 1. 3. Gibson’s Allfrey’s Rosabaya.
Limit Bitch (11.2) 1. Morris’s Wagsford Giselle, a dark brindle bitch I have long admired from ringside and I was not disappointed. Correct size and proportions, lovely harsh wire coat, good front construction with prominent forechest, good length of rib, well angulated hindquarters, moved true going away and coming. RCC.
2. Moore & Downe’s Romanchi Skokomish, another lovely bitch that was well presented, well constructed front, good rear angulation, lovely profile, moved well but just preferred the drive of 1. 3. Seath’s Sunsong Wish me Luck.
Open Bitch (3.0) 1. McCalmont’s CH Silvae Solo, Lovely bitch that just oozes class and catches your eye when she enters the ring, lovely harsh wire coat, good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders, prominent forechest ,good length of rib, good hind angulation, moves effortlessly with drive around the ring, pleased to award her my bitch CC and BOB. So pleased to see her go on to RBIS.2. Warrens Wagsford Lydia, another quality bitch of correct size, harsh wire coat, prominent forechest, good rear angulation, moved well but preferred the drive of 1. 3. Rowe’s CH Boloria’s Naughty but Nice ShCm
