It is some years since I have judged the breed and I observed many changes, sadly most not for the better. Never before have I felt that I was likely to be bitten when attempting to go over a Wire, nor I have seen exhibits barking and growling, lunging at me on the end of the lead when asked to move around the ring. Several had receding skulls, this is not desirable as their skulls and profiles should be conical. A significant percentage were short in ribbing giving a very cut up under line, this is a concern as it leaves the loin with less support. Few had a rounded apple bottom, with good muscle definition. This is a working breed, and there were only a few exhibits that I felt were actually capable of doing their job. Again, many were very short in the Tibia, it is impossible for a Dachshunds hind end to have the required 90 degree angles if the tibia is short, the result, straight stifles. This must havw come from somewhere, and I would beg breeders to take extra care in their breeding programs as you are changing the shape of the breed.
VETERAN DOG OR BITCH (3,1)
1ST PATTONS Ch/Ir Ch LESANDNIC SEA THE STARS. Eight years young with lovely head and front construction. Correct front movement with level topline stood and on the move. Well ribbed back with short strong loin.
2nd CLIFFORDS ABLEBODY RAZZMATAZZ. Excelled in hind angulation and hind movement. Fabulous coat and feet, but not as strong in topline as the first.
GOOD CITIZENS DOG SCHEME (3,0)
1st BAXTERS CISHELVINE AUGUST BREEZE WITH HOTWIRE. Very pleasing dark brindle. Super front, lovely neck and head. Good coat. Ribbed well back, sufficient hind angulation and moved well enough.
2nd WEATHERERS SALIXIAN LEVANTE VIA ITSUITZUZ. Most wonderful temperament, wanted to jump into my arms for a cuddle. Best of coats. Well angulated hind end, with superb muscle and excellent movement. Sadly the front end does not quite match, and for a balanced appearance he needs more upper arm. Could work all day though!
3rd ELLIS GREYHAYNE LILIBET OF VIXENDAX
MINOR PUPPY DOG (3,0)
1st STOCKDALES DEROCHAISE MONTEREY. Very dark brindle with lovely head and neck. Super feet. Would like more upper arm. Good bone for age. Well angulated hind end and moved well.
