I would like to thank the Northern Counties Dachshund Association for giving me the opportunity to judge this great breed. It is a few years since I last did so but I can honestly say what a great shape they are in. I would like to thank all the exhibitors for coming under me and very much enjoyed going over your excellent dogs.

Veteran Dog/Bitch (2/1)

1st Eldred’s Bramalodge Amiety at Derdledash: 7yr red bitch with a correct head set on an elegant neck and spot on front and rear angulation. She moved with excellent drive, maintaining a level topline throughout. BV

Puppy Dog (2/0)

1st Adams’ Sonham Paddington: 7 mth dog who was very full of himself. A super head and neck with spot on front and rear angles which allowed him to show excellent drive on the move, revealing pads and straightness. I am sure that he will mature into a top class example of the breed. BPD

2nd Ord & Ainsley’s Cloudside Sebastian of Marnadee: 10 mth dog displaying all the characteristics of the winner. I was splitting hairs here but just shaded on movement today. Another with a bright future.

Junior Dog (2/1)

1st Hutchings & Price Collidach Percy Cute at Samlane: 17 mth dog who had everything in the right place and used it to produce fabulous movement at all times. He is, I gather, enjoying a great deal of success and I am sure he will take his title very soon. RBD

Yearling Dog (3/0)

1st Seath’s Sunsong Fire Opal: 21 mth confident dog, with a correct head and construction. Another to move with real drive, maintaining a level topline and straightness as he was moved.

2nd Smith’s Salixian Russian Caravan: 22 mth dog who was slightly nervous on the table but who showed himself to be a sound example of the breed as he moved. On another day, he will take top honours.

Post Graduate Dog (5/0)

1st Matthews’ Stanegate Billy the Kid at Sonham JW: 2 1/2yr dog out of the top draw. Another so soundly constructed from head to toe and really driving out on the move, keeping a lovely level topline. BD and no disgrace to beaten by such a stunning bitch in the challenge.

2nd Hunt’s Weinacht Larch at Drakkina JW: Another good and sound example of the breed, Moved with straightness and level topline. As with many of my classes, I was splitting hairs.

Limit Dog (2/2)

Open Dog (0/0)

Special Beginners Dog/Bitch (2/0)

1st Hunt’s Boloria’s Tetley Tea Cake at Drakkina: 15 mth bitch with great head, neck, forechest and angulation. Moved with great drive. BSpB

2nd Dickinson’s Derdledash Dakota: 10mth bitch who has some maturing to do but gave a good account of herself, moving well but just came up against a more balanced bitch on the day.

Puppy Bitch (5/1)

1st Seath’s Sunsong Keep Dreaming: 9 ½ mth bitch out of the top draw. So balanced and soundly constructed with that ‘look at me’ attitude. Will, I am sure, take her title over the next few years. BPB & BP

2nd Matthews’ Sonham Saucy Saffron: 7 mth bitch with sound construction and movement but just tailed off in the last movement. Another with a bright future.

Junior Bitch (4/1)

1st Hutchings’ Collidach Brook Ling: 17 mth bitch who is stunning in everyway, construction, movement and topline. She will have no problem in gaining her title in the near future. RBB

2nd Hunt’s Boloria’s Tetley Tea Cake at Drakkina: See comments above

Yearling Bitch (2/0)

1st Howe’s Kissdachs Diva at Bramalodge: 12 mth bitch. One of 2 excellent breed examples in this class. So well constructed, allowing her to power round the ring with a level topline and real drive.

2nd Smith’s Windfalls Coco Noire at Saxilian (imp USA): 2 yr bitch who just took a little time to settle but then pushed the class winner hard. Many of the same comments apply.

Post graduate Bitch (6/1)

1st Matthews’ Wyeknot Come Fly with Me over Sonham: 2 ½ yr bitch who is so well balanced from her correct head through her correct construction into her top movement. As I have commented in several critiques here, another destined for top honours.

2nd Binks’ Tannahill Paris: 12 mths bitch for whom all the above comments apply. Just could have given me a touch more drive but on another day, this result could be reversed.

Limit (1/1)

Open Bitch (3/1)

1st Moore & Downes Megline Bohemian Rhapsody (Imp Rom): 2 ½ yr bitch. My notes say wow and she did not disappoint either standing or moving. A great example of the breed and one definitely destined for top honours. So grateful to have been allowed to judge and go over her. BB & BoB. Really pleased to see her awarded BIS

2nd Clayton-Smith’s Cairparavel Kiss From A Rose JW: 3 yr bitch who also has what it takes to take top honours as she, also, is a cracking example of the breed. Today, she did not quite give me the drive of my winner.
