would like to thank the society for inviting me to judge, I was honoured to accept. Thank you to all exhibitors for a wonderful entry and allowing me to assess some beautiful examples of this variety of Dachshund and finally, to my two lovely stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and efficiently. I found all temperaments to be good, there were no nervous or aggressive exhibits, and all appeared healthy and in good physical condition (although a few appeared to be in too good condition!). All had correct scissor bites, and a few appearing to have a level bite. All had mainly good wire coats, some were harsher than others, but there were no soft and fluffy ones. The majority of exhibit`s coats were well presented, but there were a few that would benefit from some attention after all it is a show. My top winners were beautiful examples of the breed and what I hope and look for when judging dachshunds, and in some classes, I was spoilt for choice and splitting hairs when it came to deciding on places and have no doubt that these will change places in the future.
MPD (2) 1 Adams, Ellsophia Fly Me To The Moon: - 7mth old wild boar who is fairly well balanced and proportioned in outline at this stage. He has a correct, conical shaped head, a kind and dark almond eye and a good reach of neck. His front quarters are fairly well constructed and angulated with a prominent pro- sternum and oval fore chest, good width through keel and a good lay back of shoulder. His ribs are nicely sprung and are carried well back to a short loin. His hind quarters are broad and are fairly well developed with a good bend of stifle and good depth and width of thigh. He stands on good bone and feet and moved around the ring with confidence, showing plenty of drive and maintaining his top line. He is a promising youngster with lots to like about him and has time to continue maturing and strengthen. 2 Vines, Cishelvine Corrilanus:- Another promising youngster, 6mth old red minor puppy who was at his first show. Not as mature as 1st which is not unusual at this age, He is a nice make and shape though, and is fairly well constructed and balanced in out line. Similar comments apply here as to 1st., and he moved steadily and soundly around the ring, not quite as confident as 1st, but he was sympathetically handled and kept moving forward to complete the task and to ensure that his first experience in the show ring was a happy and positive one. A promising baby puppy who has lots to like about him and has time to mature and strengthen into his frame
PD (1)1 Bubb`s, Wyeknot Looks Like Trouble: - 11mth dark wild boar colour is a nice make and shape and balanced in outline and has good breed type. He has a “houndy” head that is correct in shape and proportions and a dark almond shaped eye. He has a good length of neck, a prominent oval fore chest, shoulder is nicely laid back to a good spring and length of rib, would prefer a shorter loin, his hind quarters are fairly well developed and have a good turn of stifle and hammy thighs. He has good bone and neat feet which he used to move confidently around the ring showing reach and drive maintaining his top line, elbows in and was true out and back. He is a lovely puppy with lots to like about, he has a strong wire coat that was beautifully presented and has time to continue to mature and strengthen. B.P.D.
JD (3)1 Adams, Sonham Paddington J.W: - 18mth dark wild boar colour is a lovely make and shape and is fairly well balanced in out line. He has a conical head, a dark almond shaped eye and strong neck. His fore quarters are well constructed with a good lay back of shoulder and spring and length of rib which is carried well back to a short and strong loin. His hind quarters have good angulation, are broad and well developed with lovely hammy thighs that have width and depth to them and a good bend of stifle. He has good bone and feet, correct wire coat and he moved out confidently around the ring with a free and easy stride, holding his top line. 2 Vines, Cishelvine Quintillion: - 13mth young male, dark wild boar in colour with lots to like about him. Similar comments apply throughout regarding construction and angulation, and he moved out confidently around the ring, elbows in, holding his top line and was true moving out and back. He stands on good bone with neat feet and has a lovely harsh wire coat that was beautifully presented. Very close to split these two, but on the day preferred the shorter length of loin of the 1st. 3 Eldreds, Derdledash Naughty Neptune.
YD (6,2) 1st Lerego, Teckelgarth Pike Milligan: - Loved this quality, dark wild boar youngster as soon as he came into the ring, and I was not disappointed. He is a lovely make and shape, is balanced throughout and has plenty of breed type. He has a strong, masculine, conical and well-proportioned head, with a dark almond shaped eye and strong jaw. He has a good arch and reach of neck, a prominent well filled oval fore chest that has good width through and length of keel. His shoulder is nicely laid back with a good spring and length of rib that is carried well back to a short and strong loin and his underline balances with his top-line. His hind quarters are broad and well developed with good angulation and bend of stifle, and well-developed hammy thighs that have plenty of width and depth. He stands on good bone with neat feet and used all these attributes to move around the ring with a free and easy stride elbows in, showing plenty of reach and drive, maintaining his top-line and was true and parallel out and back. He is a lovely young hound with a super temperament, still has some maturing to do and was beautifully presented with a lovely harsh wire coat. 2 Wills, Kasalane Ostiriato Sea Over Cishelvine Naf :- 18mth red dog who is a nice make and shape and is fairly well balanced. He has a correct conical and correctly proportioned head, dark almond eye and a lovely soft expression. He has well-constructed and angulated fore quarters with a prominent and well filled oval fore chest and width through keel. His shoulder is well laid back with a good spring and an O.K. length of rib and a short loin. His hind quarters are angulated and are broad and well developed with a good bend of stifle and a hammy, well-developed thigh. He stands on good bone and feet and moved positively around the ring with a free and easy stride, elbows neatly in by his side and holding his top-line. He has a reasonably harsh red wire coat, and though the red coat can sometimes be “tricky” it was well presented. He is an honest young hound and has lots to like about him. 3 Sanders, Just Lennys Choc Chip By Knottsrose
PGD (4) 1 Effer, Greyhayne Hector :- Mature male, dark wild boar in colour, is nicely made and fairly well balanced throughout. He has a strong, houndy conical head, a dark almond eye and a good reach and length of neck. He has a prominent, well filled oval fore chest, a good lay back of shoulder, spring and length of rib and a short loin. His hind quarters are well developed with a good bend of stifle, and he has good bone and a harsh wire coat that was well presented. He moved positively around the ring with a free and easy stride, maintaining his top-line and was parallel out and back. 2 Langridge, Calicoe Thank God It`s Friday: - Mature red coated male who has many similar comments as 1st but preferred the overall make and shape and more balanced outline of the 1st. 3 Hornes`, Salixian Moroccan Mint.
LD (10,1) 1 Hutchings, Collidach Brook Ling: - Slightly heavier built throughout, but he is well-balanced and has good breed type. He is a dark, wild boar colour has a masculine and houndy conical head, strong jaw and a kind, dark almond shaped eye. He has a good reach of neck, a prominent and well-developed oval for chest and well sprung ribs that are carried back to a short and strong loin. He stands on good bone and feet and moved with a free and easy stride around the ring showing plenty of reach and drive, elbows in maintaining his top-line and was true and parallel out and back. He has a good wire coat and was presented in lovely fit and hard condition. 2 Seath`s, Sunsong Fire Opal: - Another nice example of this variety, with lots to like about him. He has a good make and shape, breed type and is nicely balanced in profile He has a correct conical head and a dark almond shaped eye which is set onto a nicely arched, length of neck. His front and hind quarters are well constructed, and angulated, and same comments apply as 1st.
