First of all thank you to The Dachshund Club of Wales for the invitation to judge and a decent sized ring to judge exhibits in. Thank you also to my efficient stewards and to all the exhibitors. Although my initial invitation from this club was to judge the miniature variety I was asked to swap to standards to accommodate the other wire judge. In hindsight perhaps the time between appointments for judging this breed should have been longer as a few exhibits I have judged previously. On the day i was looking for the defined outline of a dachshund in a wire jacket. With substance but not too heavy, with good ground clearance and free moving. Temperaments were good, I didn’t find any bad mouths and coats on the whole were correct. I did feel that some exhibits were a bit too heavy and close to the ground. This combined with lack of angulation hindered their movement. With slightly more ground clearance there is more scope to drive from the rear, I am happy to say that I did find this in my main winners. MINOR PUPPY DOG 1st Matthews Mrs A SONHAM CHILLI PEPPER Just a baby with a good head and eye and teeth coming along nicely. Enough neck. He was a bit long in the loin though he had enough ribbing. He was a bit erratic on the move but overall a nice pup. PUPPY DOG 1st Seath SUNSONG DARE TO DREAM This puppy had a lovely outline. He has a well balanced head, with correct eye and enough neck. Decent ribbing and an excellent coat. He moved out well. Best puppy dog. 2nd Farrington Mrs S DOLLYDASH DEFENDER OF FAITH He was a bit unsettled on the table. He has a nice head and eye and good teeth. He could be a bit firmer on the move. JUNIOR DOG 1st Mr R & Mrs S Jackson ELDERKINE SPECIAL BREW Lovely head and eye good length of neck level topline and good ribbing. 2nd Russell & Hutchings COLLIDACH RUSSELL LEEVES Just a tad longer in the loin than my first placing and he could have tighter feet but a close decision between these two very similar puppies. I can see now they have the same sire. 3rd Mrs S Farrington DOLLYDASH DEFENDER OF FAITH POST GRADUATE DOG 1st Mrs R Vine CISHELVINE CORIOLANUS Red dog smaller in type with a good coat, difficult to achieve in a red. He has a good head, eye and teeth. He has a prominent keel and good length of ribbing. His overall balance is correct and he moved the best in the class. 2nd Bubb Mrs H WYENOT LOOKS LIKE TROUBLE This dog has good ribbing and a prominent keel. He is bigger than I like and perhaps a bit too heavy and low to the ground which impeded his movement. 3rd Horne Mr&Mrs SALIXIAN MOROCCAN MINT LIMIT DOG 1st McPherson & Paterson AMBIESQUE AVANT Smart dog of a good size. He is well balanced with a prominent keel and plenty ribbing. He moved out with drive. He is perhaps a bit too feminine in the head for me. 2nd Vine Mrs R CISHELVINE QUINTILLION He is a big boy with a good keel and decent ribbing. His head is ok with a good dark eye of the correct shape. He moved out well but lost his topline on the move. 3rd Davies Mrs C ATAHIRA RUFFIAN OPEN DOG 1st Caruthers Mrs J CH AIKTON ALEXANDER AT STANEGATE Almost perfectly put together dog. Just the right size. He has a classic balanced head correctly set on ears, good eye shape and colour. Strong neck correct shoulder placement level topline good tail set. Excellent ribbing and correct angulation back and front. To be hyper critical I would have liked him to be carrying slightly less weight. This did not deter him on the move. He strode out with drive around the ring to gain the CC. 2nd Caruthers Mrs J CH STANGATE SALVADOR My notes say two cracking dogs. To be honest had this dog moved and behaved as well as he should have he would have been my CC winner. He is another superb specimen of the breed for this clever breeder. and perhaps a bit more refined than my winner. He has a prominent keel though not overdone and excellent ribbing. Just what I was looking for. RCC 3rd Price & Hutchings N&A COLLIDACH PERCY CUTE AT SAMLANE VETERAN DOG OR BITCH 1st Prior Cooper Mrs A SYLVAE KEYNOTE Really lovely bitch with a super outline. She has a feminine head. Her ribbing was correct and she has a prominent keel. She moved out well, really enjoying her day. MINOR PUPPY BITCH 1st Pughe & Fraser BYSTOCK BLUE ORCHID The puppy was quite together for her age. She is a nice size with a correct balanced head with a good eye and nice big teeth. She has a strong neck flowing into good shoulders, a level topline and good ribbing. Her coat was correct and she moved out well 2nd Parrott Mr J M BYSTOCK BLUE TANGO AT MARONDERA Another lovely puppy and I see now that they are litter sisters. She is a bit longer cast than her sister and was running up behind on the move. She also has a lovely head and a tight coat. Two lovely puppies. PUPPY BITCH 1st Mathews Mrs A SONHAM TWICE AS NICE Beautiful puppy everything in the right place. Lovely dark eye set in a beautiful head. She has the outline I was looking for and just the right ground clearance which all came together when she moved around the ring. My best puppy. 2nd Hunt Mrs J V DRAKKINA WIRENTHA chocolate bitch with a good tight coat. She is a bit too long in the loin but has enough ribbing and a prominent keel. She moved well. 3rd Seath mrs S SUNSONG HOPES AND DREAMS. JUNIOR BITCH 1st & RCCMcCalmont Mr D Mrs K SILVAE BEST KEPT SECRET Just the outline I was looking for. She has a balanced head, good length of neck and level topline. A prominent keel with plenty of ribbing and correct underline. Her coat was the correct texture and she moved the best in the class. RCC 2nd Hutchings Mrs F COLLIDACH RAYNEE DAY A red bitch with a lovely head and eye and good teeth. Neck flows nicely into a well placed shoulder and level topline. Correctly set on tail and a good underline Different type to my winner. For me she was carrying too much weight and her coat was blown which made her look heavy. Two lovely bitches, in fact my notes say a class of quality bitches. 3rd Ellis Mrs Anke VIXENDAX VENUS STARLIGHT. POST GRADUATE BITCH 1st Mr J M Parrott DEROCHAISE BLUE ANGEL AT MARONDERA Very smart bitch with a prominent keel and plenty ribbing. A good level topline and she moved out well. She has a feminine head but I would prefer a better shape to her eye. 2nd Vine Mrs R CISHELVINE CASSANDRA Just my colour. A very dark wild boar with a decent head and a lovely dark eye. I felt her feet could be tighter but this did not hinder her movement as she strode out keeping her topline on the move. 3rd Effer Miss A CISHELVINE MISS TYFICATION LIMIT BITCH 1st McPherson & Paterson Messrs S A & P C BRUMBERHILL BISCOTTI This bitch had a lovely outline and a prominent keel. She has a nice head and eye with good strong teeth. Good length of neck flowing into a level topline with correctly set on tail. She moved well around the ring. 2nd Matthew’s Mrs Alison WYENOT COME FLY WITH ME OVER SONHAM She has a pleasing outline with a prominent keel and enough ribbing. She could do with losing some weight which might improve her topline which she lost on the move. 3rd Pughe& Fraser Ms H M & C BYSTOCK SEA NYMPH. OPEN BITCH 3 very similar bitches 1st CC & BOB. Mitchell, McCalmont,& McCalmont Ms F Mrs K & D CH SILVAE TIME AFTER TIME Just what i was looking for. Functional but with a bit of refinement. She has a textbook outline with just enough ground clearance. A lovely head and eye nicely arched neck into well laid shoulders and a level topline with a correctly set on tail. A prominent keel and ribs that travel well under giving her the correct underline. All covered in a tight wire coat. She moved out well with just that extra bit of presence. I was pleased to give her the CC and later on in the challenge BOB. 2nd McCalmont Mr D & Mrs K CH SILVAE FAN DANCER very similar in type to one and pretty much the same critic. I just felt she was slightly smaller all round than my winner and made less of an impression on me. 3rd McCalmont Mr D & Mrs K SILVAE TRADE SECRET CHRISTINE RUSSELL
